By 2100, climate change may make the Middle East, the heart of the oil industry, uninhabitable.

That's under current trajectories, mind you. If sufficient action is taken, that scenario can be avoided. But still, it makes you wonder; we're having so many problems with people fleeing Syria and the like because of war, what's it going to be like when so many more flee because the place is no longer habitable?

"Not my problem" is going to be a thing until the end of time probably.

Wouldn't be my problem if it were. I hope I'd dead before I see the results of our little geoengineering experiment.

Sufficient actions won't be taken. You know that, right?
In fact, summer here is already damn near inhabitable for my own good. I don't want to be around when it gets worse...

Windows 8.1 is being forcibly installed now, too!? How much more is it gonna take until everyone jumps ship to Linux?
Chances are, you probably will live to see the day.

It's entirely possible, unfortunately. Whatever the case, I'll likely have taken up survivalism by the time push comes to shove. Better safe than sorry.

If I did, I wouldn't for much longer. It's well documented that the effects of climate change (namely extreme weather events such as storms, heatwaves and disease outbreaks) will disproportionately affect those less able, especially the elderly. By that stage, I'll be well past the age of retirement.

There's another thing; the ageing population. I just finished a report on the effects of ageing on technology use, and the UN predicts there will be more people of the age of 60 than under 15 by 2045. If that trend continues, there are some pretty nasty implications for their safety in the event of climate catastrophe.

If linux had games, id jump on that.

Then again, Steam OS is free and such, maybe I should try that out for now.

Edit:Why on earth did this post, I went back a page, never clicked post reply.

I dunno. A loose cannon, in it's original concept, is one that causes more damage to their own vessel than the enemy's due to the strong recoil and it not being propperly tied up in place.

A Slutty howitzer to me sounds like a cannon that shoots it's (pay)load for just about everyone.

On a tangentially related note, I probably need to tone down on porn...

    -edit-
I totally skipped the word "mistaken". My apologies.

Then again, a "loose" person is synonym to slutty person so this may work the other way around. And now I can't get the idea of sexual warfare out of my mind. Thank you.

    -edit2-
Oh, Xenoblade Chronicles X is helmed by Kojima. No, not that Kojima. This Kojima.
I wonder if the two are related somehow...
wait, what were we talking about again? Bah nvm...

I mean since medical advances are soon going to include cures for aging, the only thing we really need to worry about is access to painless suicide in the event we're doomed or imprisoned for too long.
Actually, all Linux distributions are free, not just SteamOS. I totally agree that Linux needs more support, I'm hoping Valve's push for SteamOS will gather enough of it to bring Linux use up enough to scare Microsoft into treating people with respect. Right now I have my desktop set up to dual boot between Linux Mint & Windows 7, due to lots of things only working on Windows.

I like your optimistic attitude, and the idea of a free OS with as many games as Windows sounds mighty fine, but I can't laugh much harder than this Tread.

Microsoft, respect? That's like saying Steve Jobs was a visionary or that McDonalds is healthy if ya eat it every day.

I know it sounds unlikely, but a threat to their money is the best way to persuade a big company.

While I usually frown at ycl's way of putting things, I have to agree with him. M$ having a change of heart is unlikely at best. The reason they don't give that much of a shit to PC gaming isn't so much monopoly as it is the XBOX. Their gaming efforts were directed towards it for a long time now, and they are still intent on making the XOne competitive out there.

Good news, everyone! The EU has voted against protecting Net Neutrality.

Honestly, I would totally go with a Linux distro but, as you say, most things only work with Windows.
I'm tempted for an Ubunutu/Win10 dual boot, if things get bad with Windows.

Linux will never be touched by the general computer user untill all functions of it can be accessed without using the command line.

I'm not quite clear on this, is this rejecting the proposed Net Neutrality legislation that was severely flawed, rejecting amendments to it that fix those flaws, or...what?
To me, things have already gotten pretty bad with Windows. Bad enough that I wouldn't use it at all if I didn't have a copy of Win7.
Heh, I was thinking of that when he brought that up, but I didn't want to steer the conversation towards it.
