I got new glasses today. I didn't know how fucking thick my prescription lenses were until I chose the half-rimmed frame that I chose today.
Oh I've rode my old motorcycle without license nor license plate for two weeks until I got the plate. And then it was a couple of months more until I finally got my license. Passing by a cop was real tense.
my thoughts on monster hunter: generations. got around 10 hours so far. H4 for the single player missions, still HR 1 online, only did 1 hunt with other players. the game is front-loaded with gathering missions, you'll be doing very little in the way of actual hunting until about (offline) H3 to 4, mainly 4. it's really puzzling that they chose to do that honestly, not only does it test patience, but MH:GEN has the most gathering missions by a large margin compared to any other monster hunter game. other than that, I'm really liking it so far. the hunting styles bring something new. aerial style in particular is a favorite of mine. there's always "guild style" for those who want to play like they did before all the fancy new styles got added (they still get arts though, which are optional to use). the styles will probably need reworking if brought back for the next generation of monster hunter though (I hope they are brought back) as it stands, the game has no g-rank, only high rank. hopefully the game gets its own ultimate version to bring that, and a other missing features back. idk what else to say so ask questions if you want to know something I guess. also on the topic of whether I recommend the game or not... only if you've played 4U first. honestly I find myself going back and forth between that and generations. 4U has g-rank, expeditions, GUILDMARM (a qt). and MH4U actually has surprisingly memorable and good characters, with a borderline passable storyline to boot ( in a monster hunter game??? wew). generations is mainly all about the gathering combat and nostalgia so it suffers a bit in comparison to 4 imo, but it's stilll good.
wait, aerial-style? I read somewhere that MonHun:Gen is more like a 'best of' album of Monster Hunter. no attempts to make a narrative, just focused on gameplay. Yet Aerial styles, or 'styles' for that matter, is something new to my ears. So it DID add something new to the franchise, or did I miss something? (Spoilers: I most likely did. I haven't played any monster hunter apart from MH3 and MH3U). I also recall Freedom Wars, which is another giant critter hunting game on psVita, having something akin to a grappling hook to latch onto things and chop off limbs one by one, 'Attack on Titan' style.
calling the game a "best of collection" is dead wrong imo. It revisits old locations and villages, but it also brings enough new to the table that it can be its own thing and also entertain newcomers. there's side content and all that usual hunter progression. It isn't meant to he a sucessor either, only a spin off. still, it's fair to compare between it and 4U imo. especially when reccomending which to buy. no monster hunter games have really had much of a narrative, which us why 4U was pretty rare and enjoyable for me. hunting styles are combat styles that make weapons and the hunter act differently. aerial lets you jump off of monsters, palicos and other hunters and do unique aerial attacks. with the great sword the charging mechanic even gets changed so you can only charge while airborne. striker lets you use "hunter arts" faster (kinda like a limit break) that range from extra evasion to whole new combat moves. adept style rewards last second evasions and not getting hit and rewards following that criteria. also I bought and played freedom wars. pretty good game.
Yeah, the reviewer made the impression that the game took the best of each previous installment and distilled it into another game, which honestly didn't make much sense to me as I think each MH already builds up from it's predecessors, not leaving much behind. I think the demo for MH4U showcased how you can jump off a cliff and land on a creature such as the Great Jaggi, and ride it while dealing damage for a while, which is wicked sick already IMO. while we are on the topic of hunting games, it seems God Eater Ressurection is being released on pc, ps4 and vita. I never owned any sony handheld, or any sony device before the PS4 for that matter, so I was always curious about it. I was also checking out Toukiden: Kiwami, but Toukiden 2 is coming soon and I am in what can be described as "Financial Deep Shit" (FDS for short) so I'll wait it out.
No, there was a small unscheduled update to get the steam workshop running. The update is in about 35 minutes. Valve time.
Oh no. NO. Pleease don't feel bad for me! Go and enjoy all the things that I won't ever know how it feels like for a long time without thinking about how lonely and miserable I will be feeling. Don't let the fact I'll have to dodge every spoiling detail for months to come get in the way of your fun.
Technically, I can't really play either, but not for the same reasons. I need to reinstall Linux, and I really don't want to deal with that yet.
