Adapting content is a localizers job description. There's nothing audacious about that. Straight translations simply aren't possible due to linguistic differences for example, and little things like Mitsuru in the Japanese version of Persona 3 speaking some occasional english gets changed to occasional french in the english version. To keep things in the same style. That aside, I don't share the sentiment, but agree on some things. Stuff like Leon to "Leo" or Marx to "Xander" rub me the wrong way. A lot of pointless or unneeded change is done, it's pretty baffling.
I'm aware that they feel they should "adapt" content, and I'm aware that direct translation is not necessarily accurate translation. I'm saying that they shouldn't "ada-..pt" content out of principle. What they're doing is like if some jackass went and made a mindless Hollywood """reimagining""" of The Lorax with tons of obnoxious pop musical numbers, and no resemblance to what the original story was supposed to express. OH WAIT THEY ACTUALLY DID! >:C
I agree with "just because you can, doesn't mean you should". This isn't because they "can" though, or out of principle. There's a reason, and as evidenced by Awakening. Localization didn't change what the original story expressed. We've yet to see how the NA and EU (lol) versions of Fates will turn out anyway. I won't consider the game lost because of changes until experiencing them first-hand.
because I can!! Mwahahahahaha I was looking for a higher res version of that gif and found this one funnier instead.
NoA, no, stop. NoA, what are you doing? NoA, cut that out. https://twitter.com/NintendoAmerica/status/690262625154891777 NoA, why are you doing this. NoA is becoming self aware...
I might have posted this here before, but wouldn't adam jensen from Deus Ex have some serious man tits going on, because iirc the pecs are technically an arm muscle, and he wouldn't be able to flex them because he has prosthetic arms.
Shara (reincarnated Tharja) from FE: Fates is now... Rhajat. What the fuck is going on with the localization.
Oh geez, I was told this in a Steam conversation yesterday. My reaction was basically a "...what?" followed by me being told it again followed by another what. The hell is that name, that's so du- oh my fucking god it's an anagram of tharja It's the same deal in the Japanese version so oh man
TIL G-1 Jackets cost upwards of $450 dollars. Damnit, and they look so cool too! (The jacket in the picture costs $695 when not on sale) I must say, My friend is so lucky for getting one of these for free from his friend in the Navy.
yeah it's pretty obvious jesus I hate the name more than anything else they've changed though. like pls
I mean... it's cool they're following the same naming pattern as the Japanese version, but... whereas Shara works, who the heck names their kid Rhajat?
UUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHHHHH Trying to connect a modem, used as a router, to another modem thats used as an ISP. It works mostly, but the connection drops randomly. I also have 3 laptops and 2 desktops connecting to the routerish modem. Any ideas on what to do with these computers?
It's because the Japanese language has no sound for "L", so they tend to use the "R" sound instead, making a name like "Link" actually into something like "Rink". I made a bad joke about their language structure.
Err, they don't have a sound for either, it's just transliterated as an 'R' most of the time. Both 'R' and 'L' sounds are transliterated into the 'R' letters in Japanese. I personally think it sounds closer to 'L' than 'R', but ehh.
