Offensive to some Viewers.

Okay so here is my Idea, this is a sort of random encounter that triggers a side quest which takes you across various worlds.
It starts simply as you are exploring a random Planet, name is not relevant, and you come across 3 people, one with a Camera on his Shoulder, One wearing a suit and holding a Microphone, and another person who is seriously injured, who dies when you arrive. From here the person in the Suit notices you and approaching you exclaiming.
"Perfect!"
He runs towards you and engages in a conversation with you, he says that he is a Host of an up-and-coming reality TV show that is "Gonna Hit It Big Time!" in the Space Broadcasting Network (SBN), he then asks if you want to be the new subject for this show, seen as the last one came down with a bad case of, well, death. you can choose to accept or decline his offer.
This show is called, "Offensive to some Viewers", the Idea behind the show is that the crew, Cameraman and Host, follow you around the Planet for half an hour so they can get enough footage to make one episode, you can either kill the creatures, capture them or whatever pleases you to survive. After you survive the 30 minutes on the planet the host tells you of the next Planet they will film on and you can meet them there for another episode.
Each episode you complete and based on the risk level of the planet you are on, you get money.
So, for example, a low risk will get you 200 and a high risk will get you 1000 or more.
If you die during recording or travel to your ship you will lose the Crew, and will have to find them again on a different planet in the same conditions as last time.
After you complete a few episodes (5,10,15,20) you unlock special rewards, like equipment or rare items.

• After completing episode allows you to watch the episode on the monitors. (Krabby)
• The Items you get after an episode depend on the actions you take during the episode. Good actions reward with helpful equipment, bad actions supply weapons, for example. (Ditto101)
• Goals to achieve during and episode, to keep the player moving, so they don't just stand still and leave the computer for half an hour. Goals for example are, there is a creature up ahead, you should catch it or kill it (5 minutes to complete) if you fail to complete the specified activity, you fail the side quest. (My interpretation of suggestion made by Nyss)
• Episodes should be viewable on multiplayer servers so others can see how you went in it. (Sarzeal)
• Adding comments to episodes of you, for example putting a speech box into a specific scene saying "Hey Mom! I'm on TV!" (Sarzeal)
• The amount of creatures you kill/save have a price to them so you can earn extra credits in addition to the normal pay out. (wewantska)
• Possible shop or trader character, (Host or cameraman) can sell you things for the episode, you get better scores for using their equipment (Like sponsorship deals) Equipment gets better as you complete more episodes. (My interpretation of suggestion made by wewantska)
• Possible compromise to episodes, instead it shows the highlights, example: high combo kills, best capture, finding a rare creature (Casimir)
• Portable first-person Camera, if you possess a mic you can to commentaries (may be hard to code)(OmniGeoff)
• You may become a celebrity after enough episodes. You will receive fan mail, gifts and special Vanity Items (Rene6305) and stalkers (seelcudooom)
• Controversy acts like killing to many animals, mining too many resources, cutting down to many trees or destroying the environment whilst being recorded can cause protest groups (E.g PETA, Greenpeace) to show up on your next episode, if you kill them police may show up and shut you down. (May be hard to code)(seelcudooom)
• You may come across a boss fight after around 20 episodes against a real-world celebrity look alike, for example Bhear Stills (Bear Grylls) (Diabeticcat)
• Multiplayer could pit two players against each other in a scenario, either directly fighting(PvP) or completing a set amount of tasks first and the winner earns a larger payout or an extra item. (My understanding)(Pofinator)
• At the end of the Episode the Host might ask you for a small quote on how you think the episode went, A text box appears and you have a certain number of characters to use to write your message (May require mature language filter) (Veran)
• During an episode the host might ask for special requests, for example: Telling you to plant trees in an empty field, or the host doesn't like the way <Creature> looks at him, Kill it! (Veran)

Cool idea, I would find it cool if, after the episode was made, they put it up on television and you can watch it on one of these little computer monitors.

 

I was thinking of that, but not sure if it would take up too much data, but in theory it could work. I might add that in.

 

hm that is a good idea and like based on what you do could give you items or clothing that helps you with what you were doing ex: you capture alot of monsters and you get an item that lowers the amount of health you need to deal befor you capture a creature like instead of getting it down to 25% the item makes it capturable at 33% health

 

I LOVE this idea. But you should add something to it. Like... the player has to keep moving or constantly interacting with the world for it to count, otherwise a player could stay still and get credit. Maybe have the quest spawn attacking monsters.

Edit: And dying spectacularly on camera should give you partial credit anyway, since that's entertaining too.

I think everyone should be able to see episodes in TV, like Krabby said, so if you on a server, other people can see you!

And chat should also be seen some way, so that i could say:

Hey mom! Im on TV!

Perhaps how much mobs you kill and such you get more money/prizes.
As in if you killed 7 pop-tops during the show, you get $0.50 each one, so you would have 3.50 space-beans (that's what I call money in space games) after the show. And if there is a planet where they host the show, you can go there and there's a shop that sells items like fire starter, rifle, ETC.

 

I like those Ideas

 

I think a compromise to whole episodes, maybe highlights could just be shown. Like parts with excessive killing, or your death, or you capturing something. The quest does sound pretty cool if they can put it in, even without the whole episode idea.

 

It is a good idea, but I would think it would be to hard to figure out the highlights, but could be possible. I will add it to the list, thanks

oh and maybe add a gag reel when you die to play it off like you didn't actually bite the big one yah know

 

I love it. I think that once you find them, they become NPCs and you talk to them to initiate the quest on your space station or at your homeworld. I really like this idea.

 

This reminds me of Fuzz from Saint's Row
