Ocean Planets!

If we are going to put forward ocean worlds, I suggest the mechanics of what keeps air escaping a space station and generally dying in space is going to keep you safe with the whole depth and pressures and stuff, lets not make their life a living hell of mechanical systems exclusive to only certain kinds of occurrence in the procedurally generated content.

    That said ...
Allow me to say, AWESOME IDEA :D I also want to see full on mostly Gas planets as well. Either way, its a gravity well you enter and some medium you have to make your way through, be it gas, liquid, or solid.

What is gas, liquid, solid is the real kicker. Supposedly barren Ice planet but underneath its teeming with life in a huge ocean? Different kinds of gases, liquids, and solids making for stratospheres, mantels, and cores? Some being life sustaining and others being death incarnate? This level of gas supports this kind of life but the next cloud level down we don't speak of, the horrors float there...

And combinations there of, gas vents, heated by the core, providing a life sustaining ecosystem where no life was thought possible or veins of valuable ore weaving bizarre and beautiful patterns into the land scape, ocean floor, and mantle, very alien from anything we have ever known.

It doesn't have to be complicated, I would hope, for some really spectacular places to emerge from procedural generation.

And if you want, you should totally build on Waterworld, sure, you may lack in solids but you own the friggin bank in liquids, especially if you have elements you can fashion fuels, food, bio diversity (see horrifying biological experiments), crystals, plastics, ceramics, etc from. Hell, it wouldn't surprise me if alien "fish" are the first ones to the stars, having a much better understanding of staying alive within a 3D space, with biology more readily adaptable to low G conditions. That and alien "birds".

That's a lot of words, and I read them all. I like the gas idea, and like if there are two different types of gasses that are extremely volatile together, they create a massive explosion that shakes the planet like an earthquake.

Interesting idea. Actually a beautiful idea, been dreaming 'bout that too. Small islands, underwater caves... Someone mentioned submarines and stuff, boats too would be awesome. I just hope that the "what would be the utility of the boat? we got a submarine, a hover chair of doom that can summon Cthulhu, why would we need a boat?" stays away... not EVERYTHING in the game MUST have a extremely useful utility, I would love to have a boat, stop it by the shore of a island, go for a dive... (random idea about boats and constructions... you enter the boat and the interior of it becomes visible, you know, background.. and.. err... foreground ? no idea.)

    BUT YES OCEAN WORLDS.

I'd like an item, alike the Neptune's Shell in Terraria, that would turn you into a fish-man, allowing you to move throughout the water with ease, more than before.

You mean when your outside the boat you can see the foreground layer, but when you enter the boat you can see the interior of the boat.

or u could just use a super lava beaminator on the planet and make everything obsidian and just mine through the obsidian, it's win for both species(water dudes and humans) i'm pretty sure the underwater guys are pretty bored with all there water and want to taste fresh air and oxygen, and I'm pretty sure their decision is right, I mean space peoples life are pretty great while the fishes just get bombarded by some Hyper dynamite that might kill their species and homes because some careless cyborg fisherman

Super lava beaminator? haha, but turning all the water to obsidian would kill all the "underwater guys" so they won't get a taste of fresh air an oxygen! :D

hmmmmmmmmm That might be a problem.............I'm not gonna worry, some space nerds in the universe of starbound might find another way to invite the underwater guys to their tea parties in a different way then

I hope there is a planet that is only one block, and populated by a single penguin who forever paces in endless circles. And then build your house around that block so that your house is the planet.

The ocean planet idea is cool too. There should be a lava planet! Wait that wouldn't really work... :(

I think a lava planet is a great idea, you just have to have a lava proof boat or submarine. :) and there would be lava fish, and lava Cthulhu!

if there are water planets then submarines w/ lasers are the ideal mounts

Terraria's ocean was just a huge disappointment. i was really happy and quickly sad when i first found the ocean and just hit the end.
