Obscure Starbound tips

    Basically, if there's something it took you a long, long time to figure out and it's not obvious in retrospect, this is the place to post it.
    Things I only figured out after playing more than a hundred hours:
    -Those notes quest enemies sometimes drop are accurate. Either a new chest with the loot will spawn in the place they indicated, or it will fill an already existing chest there.
    -You can shift-rightclick to split stacks of items. I only figured this one out yesterday.

    if you have a container open, shift+clicking a stack in your inventory will move it to the container's next available slot, and visa-verse. this is mostly helpful when loading up terramart shipping containers.

    This is something I figured out IMMEDIATELY but keep forgetting in practice.

    The Matter Manipulator can be your best friend in combat. One tall wall of dirt can keep foes stymied pretty well. Combine with a lobbing attack that can arc over the wall... or Amontillado them in and move on.

    Or Amontillado them then drop in some lava.

    You said obscure so... If you dig up the ground, 2 blocks below you (leaving a one-block raised "floor") you can pick up the loose blocks trapped under it by activating your distortion sphere.

    ctrl and mouse to look around (downwards
    hold alt.

    That allows for rather wide range chest and loot exploring

    • The cooldown for prinary and secondary fore are separate and can be used to circumvent the delay between attacks if you have a weapon with a long cooldown timer(examples: sniper rifle with bounce ammo, or a spear with blade whirl.)
    • Energy whirl's "windup" can hit enemies from behind. a 3-hit combo is possible using primary , and using the mouse to hit with the back of the windup and turning around for the release.
    • knockback can be used to stunlock targets that are affected by it, even gunmen.
    • Even without splash damage capabilities, a shot can pierce multiple targets if they are on top of each other's hit box.
    • for some reason, avian tomb novs and birds are still fighting each other.
    • apparently the entire town of an npc town does not get hostile even if you manage to start and contain an initial fight with the guards, but will react if said ongoing fight comes to them.
    • town npcs usually do not react to loose blocks being taken.
    Would these tips include taking advantage of glitches? :lickitung:

    I found this in a thread about terraforming. I'm currently in the process of doing vault runs to be able to verify it.

    Oh, it's true; several people have confirmed it, and the Erchius Ghost is implemented like all the other planetary environmental status effects, such as radiation, which explains why terraforming removes it.

    guards will not watch their steps around puddles, remember this when traversing terrain with poison or lava hazards.

    While the escort quest finishes once you talk to the quest giver, mind the escort's surroundings. An offscreen escort can still be killed.
