Because the game has none, so we the community will create it.

I was under the impression the devs simply haven't got around to it yet. Besides, if the community makes it then all it is is fanon. Not canon.

i totally had this idea about novakid brands.

so brands are like, what define and keep a novakid together, right? and after they die it gets faded slightly and stuff? but then in character creation you can create a novakid without a brand. so my idea was that this was a rare mutation, and essentially made the novakid immortal (unless killed). i imagine social-stigma wise they would be a little bit more outcast, because when you see a novakid's brand you might get an idea of what they're like. it's already hard enough to read someone that doesn't have facial expressions but what if they have absolutely nothing at all? i imagine a lot of people wouldn't trust brandless novakids. but i also thought that, ultimately, brandless novakids, while a mutation, would really just be the next step in novakid evolution -- though we would be thousands of years away from that.

i also thought it would be interesting if a novakid hit or chipped their brand somehow. i imagine it might affect their form or perhaps their memories and they might get amnesia, or it might just count as a normal head wound.

The brand is how they exist, it creates the energy/plasma field that holds their gases together. They can be killed by normal wounds that break the field (like a less messy version of bleeding out), and by the brand being badly damaged or broken (think headshots) or being separated from the primary mass of gasses (being beheaded)

Heres something. Nova kids obviously heal their plasma shell after it is damaged, but if their brand is slightly damaged, so that it is still working, it uses it own magnatism to reform

Novakids can be born with defects like humans, where there plasma feild is misshapen

Lets also say that if a limb is cut off, it doesnt regrow, a large concentration of their gasses is in ther abdomen so that a wound their is worse than a wound in an arm or leg, and a novakids plasma shell can be smashed from a punch ir such similar to bruisin or a broken bone

I believe Novakid lore and content might only be a matter of time. I hear from people files diving and using mods to unlock "locked" content in the "Nightly" version of the game that the main story is already complete.

Meaning that all the development time now currently used to develop content for the game until 1.0 is not time used for the main quest, as that is already complete, but indeed stuff meant to "fill" the rest of the game.

An hunch I have is, and I blame the fluffalo for that, that they currently are focusing on the promise of "alternate paths of game progression" for the different playing styles promised:
Mining and exploring as we used to is, obviously already in.
Meanwhile, missions not being "gear"-locked anymore may have actually seen them retooled as a "soft" mean of gear progression of their own as I recall hearing one of the player being awarded enough durasteel ore to upgrade some critical crafting station once they were done with a specific mission.

Meanwhile, I believes they may have already now made "farming progression" possible within the game thanks to tweaks to the outpost store: The Terramart Shipment Station is a way to sell crops for much more pixels than is normally possible, which pixels can then be used to purchase various ores directly from the Ursa Miner store. Meanwhile the addition of Fluffalos you can raise mean you now have a mean to get rare components like living roots(used to craft the breathing EPP) and others(such as the cryo component used in fridges) without going to battle against monsters dropping them in the first place.
Another fact which make me feel this might indeed be the case is the fact that the Ursa Miner store is unlocked by gifting a new teddy bear to the bear miner's son.... which item requires not just woven fabric but specifically cotton fibre, a fabric which specifically has to be farmed to be gathered. Meaning a player who is already a farmer would unlock that store as well much quicker than one who is not.

So I wouldn't be surprised if future major news updates where to announce similar features that, without us realizing right away, would be giving shape to those other promised alternate progression paths.

I think I already fell on a leak of that from nightly and if it indeed proves itself to be true all I can say is "those clever bastards".

I can't find it, but I'm pretty sure Bietol said that the "brandless" Novakid actually have in-grown brands, so they're just covered by a thin layer of their plasma shell.
