Not sure if reference or just coincidence...

I was playing Spore just now and when I was going about my business drifting through my allied empires while selling spice, I moused over a star system with a very familiar name.. At this point I began to wonder if Spore is referencing Starbound (due to procedurally generated content) or if Starbound is referencing Spore (due to Spore was created first).. The star itself is named Agaran.. The name tag with the red spice marker is the planet in the star system..

I decided to share this discovery with the forums.. BTW I found this only a few minutes before posting this.. My ship is still floating over the planet at the other end of the green line at the time I am posting this..

how would spore reference a game that wasn't even out until years later from an indie developer?

This question was already answered in the OP.. To clarify, it could have been added into the random name generator in a patch/update.. Thus enabling it to appear in the procedurally generated galaxies..

    Also conspiracy theories are fun..

I'm calling coincidence. After all, Spore was made about six years ago. It would be a very obscure reference on Starbound's behalf, and not one that many people would pick up on.

Also... The word Agaran comes from the root word Agar.

Agar is an extract from a seaweed used to solidify media. In mushroom cultivation it is used to make a medium beneficial to mycelium growth.

    BOOM. INTERNETS.

Actually, the word Agaran is based off the Latin word for mushroom, Agaricum.
