Why have we now passed onto the idea of oxygen and life requirements on planets? Even though it is a good idea, that's not the point.
Vanity items never ruined Terraria at all, they improved it. Because most of the armors in that game looked rather ugly, with few exceptions.
And this is more of a response to vanity items that give you bonuses: That simply removes the idea of vanity items in the first place; they are designed to give your character a different feel in game and not have some mix-coloured armor that you have found, but you still wish to wear it for the stats on it.
Personally: I don't really mind if they are added or not (vanity items), but if they do they do it in a few ways:
    1. They have a basic Head, Torso and Leg equipment slot, similar to Terraria perhaps.
    2. They give you NO bonuses or added defense what so ever (Remember game is a game. Looking cool is good. Having to have numerous armor sets just for slightly different environments is a very stupid idea, seeing as how Tiy stated somewhere that you will not be able to lug around numerous pairs of armor on person.)

I also believe that Tiy or someone stated that you will NEVER find the game easy. Even Level 100 planets will be hard even with the best gear. So feeling powerful will never really be the problem unless you love to one shot poptops (or whatever they are called)

I was thinking Hat, Face, Torso, Legs - In that way you would be able to have different goggles, sunglasses, compared to the hat you chose to wear. The more options for equipment the better. Could even have 2 slots for hat, 2 slots for face, 2 slots for torso, 2 slots for legs, etc.

    2.
No oxygen on a planet is not really a "slight change", it's a total change. I don't see the logic in wearing sunglasses above a helm, that's kinda what I'm talking about. If you are wearing sunglasses with the helm I would prefer that they are underneath the helm, thus making it more logical, feel more right etc.

That's the "feeling" I'm talking about, you don't "seemingly feel" stronger with regular clothing compared to heavy armor for example. Just want the game to make sense you know, but it doesn't mean I want the game to be less enjoyable and less customizable, just means I want it to have sense as well as customization.

Want to wear goggles above the helm? Sure just give it sense and it's all good, the goggle's strap could be flexible and reach all the way around the helm etc. As long as it all fits together I don't really have any issue with vanity items, it's just that in Terraria, you can wear them above everything. Sure it is a "good thing" (with more options), but to me it's not sensible enough to just swap it up completely, (as if) you don't have any armor on at all.

Basically, what I'm saying is that I don't like the idea of completely hiding the armor (or other "important" gear), partly hiding it in a sensible way would be much more appealing to me. That's all. :DD

Not really. Except the fact you won't be able to breath
All jokes aside: I see what you mean more clearly now about it being more of an overlapping idea, though saying that; it may look very stupid wearing a pair of shades over a knights helm. Perhaps have a system like DC Universe (That DC MMORPG) where you can choose to have it overlap or completely replace it. But I still believe that vanity should have no use what so ever, otherwise it should be classified as armor.

Are you people telling me you DON'T want to wear sunglasses overtop of your spacesuit helmet?
How else are we supposed to impersonate the Kool-Aid Man?

The way Tiy said it, I think the threat level is almost like a slider when it comes to extremes
Low level no matter what you do will be easy
100 will always be the 'IMPOSSIBLE DUNGEON' level in a sense. If you played mystery dungeon games, think of the end game dungeon in this sense, no matter what level, it will always be hard. You could go with no armor and have the same difficulty in the level 100 planets

You're complaining about people ' breaking the atmosphere' of their own games, this is important for people to realize but just because stone optional thing doesn't appeal to you doesn't actually give then a reason to remove it. Among the possible complaints one could have anout a game someone else being able to play dress up is not legitimate, this isn't an mmo, you aren't forced to see these oh so horrible immersion breakers, they do not affect you.

Crusader1337: Charlie... Why aren't you affected by the gas? You don't have a gas mask on
Lil' Charlie: no....? i have gas mask but its under my vanity sunglasses, aint it cool

At some point, vanity items do ruin the atmosphere, as explained above...

Withholding my opinion on the matter, if they weren't included the people who do like them would be left out of their fun, and would probably ask for them until they were added in an update. If it's too immersion breaking, there may be a server or client-side option to disable them. It's definitely something you could bring up with a developer in IRC if it's going to be a big deal for you and others.

I wasn't talking about removing vanity items completely. I'm just saying that there could much better alternatives, like highly customized armor, vanity items that match your equipment instead of hiding it, other means of defense and so on.

A solution might be to actually make vanity items take up armor slots and provide no stats; that way, people won't be running around dressed as references when they are actually in the field. Making the items make you totally defenseless will prevent people from keeping them on at all times, basically.

While I'd support the idea of vanity clothing being just the alternative to armor (so people can look however they want but at the same time not run around in slippers and hawaian shirts on atmosphere-less, radioactive planets) given how most of the community prefers all kinds of silly or weird things just because they seem cool, I don't think that the idea will go through. The glimmer of hope rests in extensive, game's modding potential promised to us by the devteam.

You could just link that video in Offtopic instead of trying to smuggle it here :p

...As I very much doubt that will happen. What you will get will be just people running around on some servers in idiotic clothes because they're 'funny' or 'cool' and other people who care a bit more about immersion complaining about them or moving to some other servers. That's it.

That was the initial point of my thread. Unfortunately, it looks like vanity users don't want to be completely defenseless :D

Nobody's gonna remove them just because some guy doesn't like them. People want to wear tuxedos in space and they will. Don't use vanity clothes if you're so sensitive to realism.

I highly doubt that vanity items will be removed from the game, I wouldn't want them removed either. Just altered to be more sensible.

    Edit:

I wouldn't mind if the Superman outfit made you invincible and gave you the ability to fly though. Although, for the sake of giving it a time limitation, you'd only be able to use it's super bonus for a period of time, when the timer runs out you turn back to normal and it's just a costume.

And of course, it would take some time before you could use it's "super bonus" again, maybe after 48 hours in-game time.

Sorry, I don't think anyone wants something that overpowered or exploitable in the game. Time limit or no, even ten seconds of invincibility would be too much, and anything under that would be pointless.
