I've noticed a lot of grumpies from EA players. So far I don't agree with most of it. It sounds like they pulled a lot of features simply because they didn't like them in terms of game balance just yet and plan on re-implementing when they can fit them in better. I'm a programmer. That makes sense to me. Features that don't really jive well with the rest of the product should go back to the design board. This is a good dev strategy and I think it's likely most old features will return in some form.

Anyway, love it. Addicted thoroughly, not quite hopelessly yet though.

One recurring gripe I will definitely agree with... Planets definitely do feel a touch cookie-cutter. IMO, weather/resources could stand to have more variation than there currently is. Always having certain expectations on a given star/planet type makes sense but having a few wild card resources/weather types would be cool. Even if the wild card is sometimes a reduction in resource or weather types. Weather having more impact on how settlements are built and conditions on the ground (e.g. more resources closer to the surface on meteor world) would be cool. Also, resources having varying degrees of abundance would be interesting. Home systems should be balanced of course but it would be nice to discover the hugely rich in resource X planet occasionally that has trace amounts of other stuff. Maybe a ship sensor upgrade should be required to see this info.

Right now it takes a fair bit of effort to discover new stuff once you've explored every planet type. I think discovery of exciting new possibilities should start when you're simply checking the FTL map for new worlds to visit.

Barrens, moons, and asteroid in particular seem like a bit of a waste. Also, maybe a category of truly random planet would be cool where all bets on typical expectations are off.

Unsure about the resource bit being on surface to meteor planets... I think that is one weather planet that is on/off, in other words not all fire star tier planets have and have not. The planet types of that tier anyway.

there are certain weather types right now that build up loose blocks along the ground; desert planet being one of them, and does in very least get one to think about how to build in such a case. At least for me. I remember building a canopy over a few of the homes of a floran hobbit village in a desert due to the weather I mentioned. The sandstorms there, or at least the heavy ones would build up silt along the ground, but doesn't fill up to the sky limit; I believe it has a limit to at which it will. Unsure of that as I was not there for that long. There is a snow one that does similar to that though.

Yes, I am a beta player. I am one though that pretty much has a similar view to yours though. I love the game for what it is, and do understand that things that were cut probably needed more touchups. I have faith they will continue to add for a time, and quite possibly put back in rework of some of the things they didn't have ready. The main thing of 1.0 was mainly getting the game engine finished, so saves won't have to be messed with as much. As in no more wipes that are intentional. That and it to me is a good starting point beyond the bug fixes and optimization. Makes easier to add more at a steady pace.

I do agree with most of what you are saying. Barren worlds... I think were made like that on purpose, for those that want to not be bothered by enemies and just want to build from the ground up. Me personally, as a builder, I don't like doing that; as I like to work with terrain. What I mean is building with the terrain, of interesting sites and variations I see throughout the universe that is not a barren planet.

Asteroids I believe is just a way to get those minor resources, although would be nice to find an instillation of some kind every so often. Also would be nice if they added iron to those, even if it would have a lower chance than the rest. Or even make it so the ores that can be found on there are random in what will have the bulk prominent place. In other words some asteroids you will find more gold, some you would find more this or that... Basically.

The thing of the moons that I don't like, is that it takes up too many spots where there could be another planet. It is nice to have a lot of moons around, but when you see all the time a planet as the primary, it will always be 1+ moons in orbit. Would be nice if there was a chance to see another planet type that could orbit a primary planet. Moons however are just an alternate way to get fuel. Which is risky due to ghost, if that is what that creature is... I like having the option to go to these, even though I haven't; mainly because it seems like there are just too many moons by a small margin.

I also wouldn't mind seeing a planet with lots of variation that has mix of everything else as a last star or bonus one or even if ends up in a different sectors. More for the former than the latter. Plus maybe a few other biome touchups of the higher tiers and certain ocean like planets; lava and ice flow. Have not been to a lava ocean but the ice flow one seemed a bit too barren, at least it was not like the barren planet though. If anything them adding more biomes to the mix for sub biomes in the higher tiers may help along with more primary ones. As I always love more content, and whom doesn't.

Beyond that them just adding more structures and possibly more variations for races to survive on some of the high tier planets... Looking at floran tree village on lava planets as well glitch hay roof housing... although the glitch at least have a castle they could use. I do miss certain structures, but it is more the items they had within that I missed; no not equipment, the furniture items. Certain ones of those are just simply not obtainable, and hope they do make more dungeons/villages with those in them, especially a certain block from floran prison that is hard to obtain and the glyph block from avian... Also many of the human bunker items, the hologram stuff... I'll be glad when they finally get that one reworked or have one to replace with those items.

Well we will see and I am hapily awaiting while I play here and there when I can. I am one patient person, probably more so than some. Probably why I turtle a lot through most the games that allow me to do so. :nurutease:

how does dirt color and tree diversity by random generated leave and log color affect "balance" there was a LARGE amount of stuff cut thats was not related to balance.

Things like Racial weaponry (including Race-focused legendary weapons, not just crafting), mech-techs, bosses like the Jelly King and Fatal Circuit, the temperature system, USCM bunkers and the faction as a whole (aside from the prisons).
Here's a list of everything that has been removed from Starbound.

to be fair, The Jelly and the inactive robot would need to be completely redone like the bone dragon to lift them out of cheeseable miniboss of uselessness status. Same with mechs.

Must be a mod. USCM bunkers are currently not in the assets.

yeah the dungeon itself is no longer in the assets, however the furniture and items found within are. I think it was taken out with one of the 5 patches. So those whom already generated a world with one could have had one. I really do not know which they took it out; but hope they rework it so we can get the items held within. Last one that I know of it was in was 0.9, which was the version on unstable prior to release. Didn't get a chance to backup 1.0 unfortunately... ><

well Cucklefish didn't made patchnotes including what was removed. So blame them for having to spent a laod of time looking for something that may not exist anymore.

mechs wouldn't be "much" rework, give them some energy based jumpjets as abiulity and they are fine with movements, let their damage scale with armor as well to not do only that pityfull damage on higher tiers and it's done.

The jelly and the bot could be made into bigger minibosses as quests from some tenants or villagers in the world.
