No X-ray vision mode

Quick question here - is there any mod that allows to play in "non X-ray mode"?

By non X-ray mode, I mean that you cannot see "into the walls", meaning that you have to mine "blindly" and you cannot simply put a torch to "scan a wall" for resources. This includes seeing behind a door, spotting biomes way too easily, avoiding traps, poison pool and so on. Having "true sight" known from games like Nox would be even cooler, but I guess there would be some technical limitations for that.

I doubt there will ever be a official thing for that, so I'm asking for a mod - is it a thing, or anyone has even been trying to achieve such effect and found it impossible to do?

    Thanks in advance

This sounds like something that's probably impossible.

The only thing I could think of is having all light sources only turn on when the player is around them (basically if a line can be connected to the light and player without anything in between).

But hey, the modding community is a pretty talented group. It's possible that they could make something like this.

It might not be impossible, it certainly isn't outside of Starbound. But I have never made mods for Starbound, so I would not know if it is possible to implement.

Odds are it's possible, if nothing else it'd be a black overlay that goes to any block the player has direct LoS of and reveals as light is used in open areas.

It is possible . But why do you want to do that ? Realism?

Basically, there'd be a line of sight/fog of war that obscures wells of poison/water until you stand near enough to them that the inside is in your LOS. Buildings would have to have a third layer that is an exterior layer to them and only when you enter the building can you see inside of it. Fog of war would make it so that when you close the door you can't see outside if you close the door. It's an interesting idea and a lot of games have this system but those games are mostly 2D combat games. Don't remember any games that have it though but I've definitely played some. Could be part of a difficulty modifier but it'd mean that the developers and players would have to add a third layer and well.. it's a lot of extra work that's not really worth it I would guess.

    Not worth it indeed.

I do believe some one made a mod of it.
The the devs said they went with the current implementation of how the light rends because having all lights act in a such a manner would result in a higher demand on systems.

I did not ask if it was worth it, or not, but if it is possible, or there is such mod. You can imagine I'm looking for such mod because I think it is worth it. I never asked for it no be added to the game.
I made this thread because I want to know some stuff - and because of that, excuse me (and no offense) but I do not care about your opinion on this, nor your opinion is relevant in this topic.

But to give you an idea why I would like something like this:
I love hard games, and I love small things having effect on the gameplay. Also, I like surprises. For me, there is no fun in finding biome (or at least not as much as I imagine I'd have) if I can see it from miles away. Same goes for overcoming enemies inside of a building, behind the walls, and so on.

I've said something similar on mobility thing - if you can jump around anything, having tools to improve mobility, or being able to play well around terrain means nothing, because you can simply jump over anything.

This has nothing to do with realism - simple challenge, and playing around with what we have, to juice as much fun of it as possible.

Thanks TrueEdge, your answer is appreciated (well, in fact, all answers are appreciated, even Crossfang's :p) - I'm gonna check it out. :)
