I've been playing the game for awhile, and something finally occurred to me.

During the daytime, if you're down in a hole messing around and you're having trouble seeing, no need to put up a torch. Most all of you know you can knock down background tiles buy using the right mouse button with a digging tool.

Simply make a window. Knock out some background tiles and the sunshine will come in. This won't work deep underground but near the surface it works wonderfully and keeps you from having to mess with torches.

For those of you who already have figured this out, well you're very smart. I'm sure your mom told you so, and she's correct.
To anyone else who hadn't thought of it, me neither until it occurred to me yesterday. Just a little tip.

Also, this is a way to drain out a pool of water. Just get near the bottom of the pool or half way and punch a hole in the back wall. Water will drain out.

been mentioned before a lot of times. Since it has been this way for several updates now. I for one didn't figure it out from my mom or myself. I actually just noticed that being mentioned on the forums a couple months ago, and more other posts that showed up since then.

Same concept works with draining liquids as well...

Note: I don't think my mom would even know much of what I am talking about since I am sure she doesn't have the game...

lantern stick - while it have a small light radius its enough to find near ores. so rarely i use torches.
survival system - you can breath on space and also you can breath underwater.

if you are already a tier 10 player or well you dont need anymore pixels, you can make the portable pixel printer and use your pixel to make cheap light.

Sure. I find that the lantern on a stick is one of the most essential things in the game. You don't get it until tier 2. But I won't do what I call a " deep dig " without it.

I am new to the game and the forums, so I appreciate the tip! I would really rather stuff some more coal into my fuel tank instead of leaving it hanging around in explored caverns via torch form! :D

I thought it was like terraria where you could break the backwalls only if they were peripherial tiles.

Thanks a bunch, didn't know that.

Thank you tamorr, saying it was mentioned a lot of times surely helps me a lot, i feel much less nooby now.

to expand on this, it doesn't work if you go too deep, same with the draining of the liquids. But another perk of knocking out the back wall is that it allows you to teleport back up to your ship. Another downside is that you are also susceptible to the weather effect of acid rain. Again, only if you haven't gotten too deep below the surface.

Yes but it only does this up to a certain depth. The background turns to rocks shortly after descending a bit, depending on the size of the planet it will be a shorter length.
