    Greetings forum!

I just recently purchased Starbound for me and my pal, but we're having some trouble getting started.
First off, we don't have the "Starbound_server.exe" in our D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Starbound directory.
Only a Starbound_server.txt. I tried clicking the "Launche Starbound server" when executing the game through the steam library, and ran the "Launch Starbound (OpenGL) and went to multiplayer and inserted the IP i got from http://whatismyipaddress.com/ - I didn't know what to type in Servr Account and Server Password, so I just entered "Cancer" in them both. But I could not connect to the server.

    Any ideas guys?

The server executable is in the Starbound\Win32 folder if you are attempting to host a game using Windows.

More details are needed about what you are trying to achieve. Where is your friend located, in relation to your local network? In other words, are you trying to host over the internet or just for people inside your LAN?

I suggest you read some of the guides on setting up a Windows server.

    Access your router configuration.
Forward the starbound ports (21025-21027 i think) to your machine
    Open your firewall settings
Create TCP/UDP inbound traffic rules to allow traffic on those ports.
    Run Starbound_server.exe from Starbound\Win32
    Run starbound
    Goto multiplayer
    Enter Ip
Don't enter anything in password/account box

Do you have to run Starbound_server.exe from Starbound\Win32 and then launch the game every time? Doing this is the only way I get a message that says the server actually exists, it still can not connect but it seems to recognize it. The game also stops responding when I do this.

Starbound_server.exe and starbound.exe are two different applications that can be run separately of each other. When you run starbound_server a text console should appear, also if you hit control-alt-delete you should see starbound_server.exe in your processes tab.
Running Starbound_server.exe does not automatically start the client, and running the client does not automatically start the server. You'll have to start each individually. You can start/stop the client at will and the server won't care in the least. If the client is running you can start and stop the server at will, but you'll get out to the main menu whenever the client is shutdown, and you'll have to reconnect once it gets started again.
