No Pixel Cost For Crafting!

I am fine with pixels cost, I think they are obscenely high right now. Yes I understand that crafting a tent requires lots of pixels but crafting a diamond pickaxe cost 1600 pixels... I found it was more cost effective to not get the diamond or platinum pickaxe.

How on earth can a pickaxe require more pixels then a entire tent?

It can be annoying at times but in my first world after 30 min I had 5,000 pixels from killing Avians.

Pixel costs are an incentive to not sit cosily in your base but go out and fight (small pixel income), do mining (okay pixel income through ore refining) and explore the universe (chests contain pixels regularly).

I think it's a solid game mechanic to reward people for fully playing the game, so to speak, instead of just sitting around on one planet.
Alas, the steps this incentive tries to make you do are right now pretty repetitive. I do believe this will be better when the quest system is in. You deliver goods, find rare decoration for rich people, solve a planetary problem, and you will most likely receive pixels in return.

Therefore, pixel cost isn't too high, but we are missing one important source of income: quests.

Gold ore in the refinery gives you 25 each, I believe. 40 gold ore can be 20 gold bars or 1k pixels. Don't smelt it all, and you'll be (wait for it...) golden.

Yes you are right. That is why I have about 7,000 pixels and still have not defeated the boss. (I'm to busy exploring to bother fighting him :3)

I would LOVE to see Sony even attempt such a frivolous lawsuit. If they won, I would have to end my life, as I would have lost all faith in humanity.
Came close after that ridiculous Apple vs Samsung "NO. YOU CAN'T FUCKING PATENT ROUNDED EDGES. IT MAKES NO SENSE!" lawsuit, I have to admit.

Back at the plot though, I just got back on after a couple of months away from SB, nothing made me /quit faster than "Hey. Everything now requires a resource that in turn, cannot be traded, and you gain tiny increments of, from killing creatures that are ridiculously violent. Oh, and the drop rate for pixels is pretty low.. and combat is about as fun as putting your hand in a blender. STILL FEEL LIKE PLAYING, YEZ YEZ?"

No, I don't feel like playing a game that feels like Terraria: More Grind! edition, whilst handling like Crea.

This one's on the right path. I, and I think several others, want there to be something in this game that prevents person A from having person B just throw everything on the ground and skip having to earn progress. The difficulty would be shattered if nothing stopped you from crafting certain items.

It's probably not the biggest concern in this type of genre, though. If you want to cheat yourself, that's nobody's business but your own.

Pixels have a currency function with vendors, yes, but they serve a lot of different roles. I sometimes think of them like the XP you would get for doing things in other types of games. Basically, if you do nothing but harvest resources, then you don't really have to challenge yourself. If you aren't facing the games challenges, then you shouldn't expect to be rewarded for doing so.

The pixel mechanism feels to me very generic it seems like its there just because it have to be there. It would have worked better as a pure currency and that some items can't be crafted by you so you need to find a trader to buy those things. How to achieve this? One example here: Could be galactic traders on the map, sort of outer space black market that will be visible on the star map.

I believe that pixel costs are fine as is, I've had no trouble with gaining pixels in the first place.

I'm fine with the pixels the way they are. They get increasingly needable later in the game, but to compensate, you also get the refinery to refine ores. With the amount of diamonds i've found by now i have over 100 10k Voxels stored in my chests (And i'm mourning them all because of the incoming update ;-; ) and i'm already using cheap lights instead of torches. I figured out you need no more than 200 of whatever bar of whatever ore to make anything. above level 4, 155 (310 ore) is the magical number to make all armor and upgrades, so you can refine whatever extra amount you have (Currently not do-able without mods, they would implement that too. i'd love to refine that ridiculous amount of rubium I have.) and get tons of pixels.
Also, guys, please, pixels aren't fuel. They're used to make electronic components and other fiddly stuff like RyuujinZERO said. I assume a simple diamond pickaxe uses them to make a component inside it that deliver pneumatic blows as they hit a surface, making it hit harder, and thus mine faster, as the diamond coating allows for higher resistance to harder blows.
    IMAGINATION!

Or just to reinforce it, or maybe the pixels are somehow used to actually shape the Diamonds into the pickaxe head.

Or maybe the pixels are magical beings... :3 The guy up there did say IMAGINATION!

Well.. They're probably more like nanobots.. But Sure.. They work just like MAGIC.

I do believe current research is starting to demonstrate they are an entity called game mechanic. It's like a car mechanic, but obviously much smaller.

I suppose if I really cared about playing, I'd just go to a planet and murder everyone for pixels.
This would probably be assuming that I both CAN run the game, and WANT to run the game.
