the durability system is implemented as a way o make sure you keep upgrading, and to keep you exploring space, not underground. plus if it bothers you that much, just use the ore-repair
I actually feel the same way. Like, the mechanic isn't annoying enough to bother me since it only cost a few ores, but seeing the meter go down causes me anxiety. Then again, having an invisible meter that you know is there but can't see is probably worse. Like sudddenly you hear a snap and you get a warning saying that it's blunted. Hm... On a side note, has anyone been able to repair their tools at their ship? I've gone back to the ship several times and I still have to repair with ore.
I actually sort of wish the things would break after the durability ran out... if only because compared to say minecraft, they have extremely large amounts of health. Well that and they are easily repaired for the most part.
Pick up ore, right click on the pick a few times. Use copper, since it's abundant. As for the topic, the picks are supposed to repair themselves when you return to the ship. The feature just isn't implemented yet.
Are you seriously suggesting that we should live in mortal fear of perma-breaking our Picks & then losing ALL of the Pick Tier Progression we had accumulated since then & be forced to START ALL OVER at it!!? Oh dear Arceus do NOT turn this into Minecraft... Having stuff permabreak makes them crappy, untrustworthy, & unreliable, & is damn NOT FUN...
I much prefer the idea that a tool with 0 durability is just four times less effective than a fully repaired tool. Durability makes sense and should stay in the game. The tool won't break on you, but if you don't look after it, everything you use it for will take four times longer (replace "four" with whatever number best fits after play testing).
I've tested out using a Copper Pick after its Durability is exhausted & the digging speed at this level might already be at 25ish%... >_<
I think when creating a character turning durability on should be in the difficulty settings or something along those lines. So say if you make a 'Hardmode' character there will be durability but you have the option of maybe something like 'Hardmode lite' without durability.
I have to see I completely disagree with this. Having a pure sandbox build-anything mode that has no quests or anything else in it, no durability ... fine, somewhere down the road. But durability should be a default part of the game, not an added option for 'hard mode'. Tools won't break. My pick was on 0 durability for a very long time and I still had it before I logged off last night. So you can keep using your knackered old pick if you want, and you can still use a 0 durability pick to make a next tier full durability pick. Compared to Minecraft, this is easy street.
I see your point. I think at least some kind of tool repair station or something along those lines would be a good addition at least.
You can repair your tools with ore while planet side, and as I understand it, tools automatically repairing once you teleport back to your ship is also a thing that may happen. I like the idea of adding a repair station to your ship rather than it happening automatically; you teleport up, use the repair station, back down to the planet...
Compared to how they are repaired in this game, it wouldn't be that hard to just repair the pickaxe before it breaks.
While I agree that picks shouldn't break because of the way they are crafted (Having to use a copper pickaxe to make a silver pickaxe, and so on), but I think the durability is fine. I played for hours and my copper pick is only 1/2 degraded.
Hence, why not make them breakable... At the rate they degrade, you can spend forever with the thing and only have to use a small amount of ore to repair it.
But making a new Superunobtainiumtier10 pickaxe would be very annoying, as you have to make a copper, pick, upgrade to silver, upgrade to gold, etc
I'd kind of have to say there's no real point in the durability system considering only a select few things use it, and it's more of a tiny inconvenience to repair things anyway, it just feels extremely arbitrary
Only the pick has durability and honestly... its really fair. When it "breaks" it just goes down 1 level in quality, aka Diamond becomes Platinum. I think it should be repairable with pixels though.
Who says it would break that easily, the only way it would fully break is if you didn't pay attention to it after how ever many hours you spend mining with it. It would still be easily repairable at any time like it is now.
