no diamond armor? *sadface*

did you miss the option to craft a diamond armor after the platinum one as well?
i know its a pain in the arse to collect diamonds early game, but starting with sector X, you kinda get it thrown after you and after you got the pickaxe and drill the only thing you use it for, is to put it in the refinery for mo moneyz :I
im aware that we're still in beta and it might get implemented anyways in another patch, but what if its not? :0
whats your opinion on the matter?

Diamond armor would only be the stepping stone into a different racial tier anyway. So, I see no reason for it to be added with any dire urgency. Now, randomised armor... That would be quite lovely.

all the sector X exclusive ores pretty much have the same rarity, which isn't really rare at all. I almost always get all the Aegisalt, Cerulium or Rubium that i need to craft the Armor/Weapons i need in one run.

Diamond is kind of a terrible concept as far as armor goes. Diamond is very hard, yes. But its not flexible, its not particularly good at retaining shape, and it would be very silly. This isn't Minecraft. This is a sci-fi game. A tier 11 armor should be something based around plasma shielding, or if still going with solid armor concepts, something involving carbon nano-fibers. That's the closest to diamond armor we'd likely see.

 

Not a very good argument considering there's gold armor and gold tools. Which gold is one of the worst metals to use for anything that isn't electrical. Not only is it really heavy but it's also a very soft metal. Meaning one swing of a pickaxe would result in you turning it from a pick into a golden blob of metal that'd more closely resemble a hammer. Gold armor could be pierced easily. Yet we have those.
People get so hung up on that "science" part and tend to forget the fiction part in there. Sci-Fi rarely mirrors reality.

 

I'd say this is more 'science-fantasy' than 'science-fiction'. star trek is like science-fiction, where it seems the things that don't exist are based more on scientific possiblities, even tho most of them are still just silly dreams. This show is for the true geeks. Star Wars is more like science-fantasy, where it's just all about the dramatic and story, and anything goes. I have not strayed far from general discussion forums because I assume in some of the other areas that might seem interesting, there is probably heated debates about "why doesn't this work like this? physics shouldn't allow that!" and whatnot. It doesn't matter. Cuz the developers make it that way. So, back to the topic, I'd say make diamond for drill upgrades or repairs instead of or combined with the copper ore. Or some type of vanity-crafted thing to add sparkles to your toon. Obviously everything is based on something human that we can relate to, be it science or fantasy, but stretching out the use of each current tier makes more sense than just adding another one. I sped thru all the post-delta tiers too fast to get to impervium, and I don't even have a mannequin yet to appreciate the appearance of some of those earlier X sector suits. Especially considering that the Force is basically sorcery.

 

AND ancient eastern philosophies, dealing with 'Ki', martial arts and inner strength/potential. It's an admirable combination, clearly. Of course, it's funny that the "Scruffy Nerf-Herder" is who says this.

don't u think that in a 'Sci-Fi World', someone could have find a way to make diamond armor, despite the fact that its very hard to shape? kinda like how u take the hydraulic angular phase shift emulator and attach it to the transdimensional photon centrifuge.

 

Guys, diamond armor is already in the game, or at least its in the files...

 

so it kinda is there. but also kinda isn't.
if an imaginary armor would be as useful as an imaginary friend, it would be great.

Yeah, according to Starbounder its in the files, but not actually implemented. It looks pretty boss though, here's a pic.

Patience Topic Creator... Many many things still await implementation.

In addition to Diamond Armor, Diamond Weapons could be interesting too.

 

Honestly I would like the idea of using diamond instead of coal to create the top 2 or 3 armors (e.g. 1 diamond and 1 rubium bar = 1 impervium bar.) Diamond is just so plentiful on tier 9 and 10 planets I don't see any problem with scarcity. I would like this much more than straight up diamond armor. However I do think there needs to be more diamond items in the game.

 

Considering how hard it is to get diamond prior to the X sector it may be a bad idea to implement it. It would probably be skipped like a lot of the current armors, just because there are too many "in betweens" and you'll save time by skipping over some. If people like the model it might be ok, so most could skip it but if you want the look then you can craft it.
