Closed no coal

so yea, this might be nothing but it might be a bug. when you guys patched after the OP weapons thing, i created a new character. well, i was about to post saying that i have not seen a single piece of coal, but i found 3 a few minutes ago. thats it. i have been playing for a few hours now, i have found lots of surface silver deposits, even found 1 gold on the surface. a bunch of iron and copper, stuff you would expect. except for coal. i just have not been finding it at all, so i was gonna use wood to fuel my ship and check another planet, see if i just got a bad starting planet, but you guys either took unrefined wood out as a fuel source, or it is bugged too. just thought i would post this, maybe others are having the same no coal issue and it could be a bug. or i could just be stuck on a bad starting planet with no fuel source, i do not know because i can not go to another planet to check.
i am about to create a new character, see if i get another with no coal. update: new character's starting planet has coal. so i guess it was just a really bad start on coal, but really amazing on everything else. like silver.

 

Did you try caving yet? You just might have gotten a really good surface ore selection there, what with the silver and such. Although removes all the surface coal you could have gotten, might just have to go underground for the coal. Pretty nice planet though, but not when you're first starting out and need fuel to go to other planets first :T

 

yea but cave exploring gets kinda tough with only 10 torches. sure there is the flashlight, but i cant fight with a 2h sword and hold the flashlight at the same time. i have not tested with a 1h sword, but i know i can hold a sword and bandages. also a shield. but i didnt test the flashlight

 

flashlight is a 1h, so yes, you can hold a 1h sword and the flashlight, although if thats the problem you could always juggle torches, go back and take them down and put them in deeper, more hassle but until you get coal, not much choice but to, other than making a new character.

 

yea i made a new character to test and see if it was a bug or not. and it wasnt, as my update said. so now i have just been playing on the new one and ignoring the one without coal. i dont really care for the torch juggling thing. its annoying lol

 

speaking of bugs, has it been resolved if the wood not being used as fuel is a bug or not? because i didnt see it in the patch notes, and they added some new fuels, and that was in the patch notes so i would think if they took one out they would have said that too. maybe adding the new fuel sources bugged the wood?

 

Currently 50 hours into this great game, "beat" the game before this large patch. After I remade my character I noticed that coal is scarce. All other ores are very prevalent now except coal. In fact, my buddy and I treat coal as if its the rarest ore in the game right now, finding a deposit greater than 8 is a huge find. It's got to be a bug, not only is there less deposits, they are incredibly small usually ranging from 2-4 coal. I'm sure it will be fixed and I ain't even that mad, but just putting in my two cents confirming that there is something wrong, at least with some people's coal deposits.

 

well its only sometimes, because my second character after the patch has found a decent amount of coal. not as much as i used to before the patch, for sure. but definitely more than the 4 total coal i found in like 7 hours on that first character.
so it is obviously a planet by planet kinda thing. but i can definitely notice an overall decrease in the amount of coal and increase in everything else. used to find coal on the surface like its candy before the patch. now i am only really finding gold, silver, iron and copper on the surface. gotta go into caves for the coal deposits.

 

No, I noticed this too. And I started out on a level 6 planet for whatever reason... I thoroughly enjoyed having wood as a fuel source and actually being able to find more coal than gold (12 gold ore currently, no coal) before this update. :/ Now the game really isn't enjoyable for this and the reason that I can't actually go above ground due to stupid flying aliens spewing copious amounts of blood vomit etc.

 

lol yea i had some blood vomiters earlier. they hurt a lot. that blood wave has a huge cone of effect. but they are beatable, though i was on a planet my own level. why you were started so high i have no idea. never seen a starter higher than 1

 

Well it appears the newest patch has fixed not only the birds but the coal as well. hooray!

 

yea i noticed that too. been finding more surface coal since the latest patch.
