No Beds for Children by Default

(I hope it's okay to post this as an extra thread... I thought it might work better for the suggestions to post each suggestion as an extra thread, especially since this has nothing to do with my also currently open Cindersap Warp thread. Either way, sorry for the extra thread.)

I feel like the second house upgrade shouldn't have children's beds by default, simply because not everyone wants children. However, the house does come with a lot of extra space, and as a completionist, I do sort of want it just to have it. But still, please, no children, since it's incredibly weird as from what I know I'll spend the rest of the game after marriage telling my spouse that no, I do not want children - the children's beds just came with the house and are nailed to the floor (curse you, Robin), so I can't remove them.

I 100% agree, I've used a mod to remove the crib and beds from mine because I refuse to look at nursery furniture when I have no intention of ever having kids, and I wanted the space to use as I saw fit, not how Robin wanted me to use it. I think it would be nice if your spouse asking you about kids would be linked to having the furniture placed, rather than having the room. The nursery furniture could come with the upgrade and we'd have the option of placing it or not. If we don't we never get asked, period.
If you want a temporary solution though, these work quite nicely...

Yes, make sure the children have no beds.

They must earn the right to have beds by obedient behaviours and hard work.

Then, at long last, after months of standing in the corner to sleep, they will truly appreciate the hard burlap cot and the corncob-stuffed mattress you generously provide for them. They will say, 'Thank you, Mater. Thank you, Pater. We have learned a valuable lesson in thrift and prudent virtue, and we are grateful for the twice-daily meal of barley gruel and sodawater. May we have our ten minutes outside in the daylight, now?'

I think I read too much Dickens.

Ooh, that's a good idea... But I think the only problem is that if you get the beds with the event with your spouse, then you'd either get them for free, or you'd have to get them before the child is born, which is sort of weird (and might not really work). Plus, I think it'd be best to buy them as their own furniture items and have the questions start after you've placed them, so that you have the option to redecorate the room to fit the beds

Haha, I think you misunderstood. I don't want beds for the children I'll never have, since they're just a waste of space. I do wonder which is worse, though... Dickens treatment or being turned into doves.

That's what I meant, buy and place beds, *then* your spouse would ask about kids. If you never put the furniture down, they wouldn't ask. Them asking would be tied to the placement of furniture rather than the purchase of the house upgrade.

I would like this as well. I'm at the point in the game where I don't have my farmer married yet and upgrading the house to have a nursery first and the cellar afterwards doesn't make a lot of sense. Not to mention I do not want children, but wouldn't mind the extra storage space of that additional floor.

No misunderstanding, just my insouciant sense of humour. I knew what you meant, I just wanted to be silly.

I laughed so much reading this! But seriously, I second the suggestion of having kids beds being optional. In fact Robin could permanently stock a cot and single beds, and buying and placing them could act as the trigger for spouses asking about kids. Though whenever Shane asks my farmer I always hear her saying "not after that many beers" in my head...
