Nightmare You sleep in a bed and a screen comes up (%1-5) you will be able to choose "Enter the Nightmare" or "Flee from Nightmare" each giving a brief description when you hover over it. When you flee from it you continue sleeping, and when you Enter the Nightmare you will enter a distorted room with a tentacle boss giving debuffs when its health reaches %75, %50, and so on. If you die you fall off the bed and wake up, and if you defeat the boss you wake up and receive either a blue print to make equipment or a passive ability (your health will be full when you enter the nightmare). nightmares will have a cool down Another idea is that you can join other peoples nightmares, the boss gets stronger when there are more people. There's a cap of 5 people. Update 3/28/14: I've been thinking about a craftable potion OR bed that will increase the nightmare by %5 (or lower) for those who want a more common rate of it happening.
I agree with your idea completely. I would do a few tweaks, though. For instance, I would make the chance of the Nightmare lower (something like 1-5%) because a 15% chance is actually quite large of a chance. And as you get stronger (Better armor, weapons, etc.) the chance of having the Nightmare increases slowly. Love your Idea. - 8L
I'm thinking that these Nightmares as a bonus solo boss. If you fail in it, you just fall off the bed A friend of mine got shot in his dreams before, but he's still alive today.
do you... keep the item you got in your dream? if so you must have been sleep walking perhaps you should wake up in a random area next to a chest
I died once as well. All I was saying was that science says that you would. Science has been wrong before.
What if the boss is a memory of the main threat/figure of your race? Or an amalgamation of all the main figures of each race? Some kind of tentacle horrorterror/Kluex/other figure hybrid. Something that would make ANY race cry in fear.
Glad you like it . I don't know what the story should be for getting out with the item. Any suggestions? And don't worry no offense taken. Great idea! a tentacle monster sounds awesome.
I have been notified a couple times that 15% is too high. I think I should update the suggestion post. Thanks for the feedback!
Pretty cool idea! What about this happening while traveling between two planets? A bit like being mentally attacked by an eldritch horror from outerspace! And if you die in this "nightmare"? Well one can say that the eldritch horror access your mind and can play with it... maybe during the next couple of hours of gameplay you'll have hallucinations (colors getting fucked up for dozens of seconds, hearing monsters very close when nothing is there, even seing monsters that aren't really there and just disapear when hit etc). I think this should be a 1% chance... kind of like a fumble on a D100! Otherwise this could also happen when you are digging a bit too deep and in the wrong place... Some "things" are burried deep under rock or ice, and this is for a good reason!
How about instead of a weapon, shield,or piece of armor, it can be an intro to a side-quest? (Or main quest if you're human.)
First: Pandora's Box, for the name of the box. The boss should be named, "Fragment of Nightmare" and it should mention some sort of deep, dark, lurking, and of course, mysterious evil within the universe. I think it should be hard, and only happen if you sleep in Sector 4 or higher, with each subsequent sector having a harder nightmare. Also, I think the first nightmare should drop a fragment you keep to craft a 4+ piece puzzel box, and once you solve it -- it gives you the option to teleport your ship to pandora, a secret Solar System or Planet (you can't set as your home) and doesn't show up on any Sector. This should open up the idea for the "Deep Space" Sector, or a new sector which is not traversible through normal means, only unique locations, chance events, and rare items will send you there. But, only once you've found Pandora, and gotten the "Gate key" which will allow you to leave any future "Deep Space" sector solar system.. returning you to where ever it was that you were just at before. The whole screen should phase shift, and it would be really cool to see some hue/contrast effects happen when your ship and the space around you folds and takes you to a deep space sector. Also, I think you should include a few notable events from XXXX based RTS and TBS game series, such as Master of Orion. Like the Space eel, and the Crystal, as well as the notorious Hyperspace Beast.. and maybe as a slight to these oldschool games, "The Guardian" which might even be a boss you unlock and beat to get your Hyperdimensional Crystal (name for the "Gate Key".) As a side note, you should place the crystal in your ship's fuel bay to leave the Deep Space sector. Second: I didn't read the rest of the replies, even though there are only 18, I'm far too lazy.
Hehehe... I love this idea, though I think it should be clear that if you die to the boss that you don't lose anything, as that would be unfair to people earlier in the game. The percentage might actually need to be even lower than 1%, but maybe something more like .01% chance per second you're sleeping. There might be a rare item you can find/craft that increases the odds for people intentionally looking for a nightmare.
