There, fix the RED stuff. Please Chuckleface.

yeah. alien, barren, scorched city, and midnight don't really belong mixed in with most planet types. perhaps they could make them only appear (outside of planets that have them as a main biome) on planets around eccentric stars?

I believe this isn't the final version of the layout. As many people have stated, Midnight being any sub-biome doesn't work, and scorched cities seem to be possible almost everywhere currently (even snow planets)..., which I attribute to their recent addition. As this is nightly, everything is very broken, and recall they were talking about the developer (pre-nightly) version in the stream where they discussed the more natural biome combinations and transitions, which means it's very likely we don't actually have the version they were talking about just yet. I imagine stuff is as it is currently just for testing purposes. Kind of a "throw it all together to see if the system even works first" deal. Then they'll get around to making sense of it. It's like what they were doing with the rest of the game up until recently. Various stages of placeholder until they have all the underlying mechanics worked out, then they make the actual content fit in place. They're getting the biome transitions to look good, the biome mechanics ready, etc. then we'll get them fitting together, and other such stuff.

They recently added weight values to the possible dungeons that can spawn on planets, so perhaps they may add weights to the sub-biomes as well. That would help out a bit.

I still think these biome changes weren't really... needed in the first place. You might say "it's odd the entire planet has just one biome", but my response to that would just be "it's odd you can cross between all of the planet's biomes on foot".

I might be more radical about this, but that's just what I think about it.

Barren is as far as I know the biome of airless planets, so it doesn't belong anywhere outside of barren planets. Snow doesn't go well with anything, even a Tundra biome, because of the outer layer of the planet being just snow and ice - as opposed to each of the other's biome's rocks and dirt. I also wouldn't mind a volcano in Forest, Jungle or Alien planet, but the Volcanic biome isn't even actually a volcano, it's just fields of ash and obsidian. It only fits somewhat with Midnight planet. And even there it doesn't, because Midnight planet's hazard is temp being dangerously low and you could quite literally freeze to death on volcanic terrain when you beam down there. Scorched city doesn't belong anywhere around gentle stars, it's a lategame biome. Alien and Midnight biomes are also lategame and midgame biomes respectively that don't truly belong anywhere outside Alien and Midnight planets. On a last, somewhat irrelevant note, for some reason I thought Tar biome would look better on Midnight planets.

Also, if a primary biome and its sub-biomes covers less of 70% of the planet, then that's actually a problem.

one issue I see with that list is there is no oceans to be found on any planets

i would like oceans to be included in planets, though in this case they would be really large lakes. including the background, I hope will have chucklefish consider allow players to "terraform" the environment by placing enough blocks of a certain type.

That would require live world scanning and updates... And would lag the engine more than it already is... So nah, don't see it working.

you guys realize this game is about space, right? y'know, that thing that doesn't always make sense?

It's not about whether it makes sense, it's about whether or not it's a pain to work with. For me, it really is.

I'm wondering why there isn't solid ore planets. Make them super rare, but there needs to be solid planets made of ore. We've already found a solid diamond planet in our universe... Why not in starbound?

Though... Didn't they mention in 'Chucklefish Plays Starbound: The Road to 1.0!' that they are going to fix it? I was sure I heard they're going to do it. Maybe I understood this thread wrong, but I don't know why you are guys so... upset ( I guess?) about this. If my words are true, it's only a matter of time when they fix crazy biomes script.

I like that idea. People could say it would break the game but clearly it wouldn't be rare enough in that case if people can find them so easily. Assuming they are rare enough to the point where they may as well not exist in terms of an average player casual playthrough then it would be a great find for the 1% that did get lucky enough to find one. Luck will always be a factor, it can decide if you fall to your death or you were just a block high enough to survive and heal.

We can only hope so, I suppose. Question is, how much exactly is going to be fixed, and how much will end up bad regardless.

Titanium and tungsten planets would definitely come in handy, given how much these might be needed as construction materials.

They would become documented and they would lose their mystery rather quickly.

They have, as recently as late last week during their livestream.

Also, volcanoc biomes DO now contain firespurts snd similar hazards, including more volcano-like peak-with-lava-crater-up-top terrain. Nightly has changed stuff up a LOT from the current stable build.

True but last time I check searching for coordinates aren't really worth the trouble, as least for me speaking as a casual player. If I recall the update itself and your OS decides if your coordinates will be the same for the other guy. Also not everyone actually look up where to find stuff, some people like to play the game legit. Nevertheless though it is true that once found and posted online they will lose their charm for anyone else that can use the coordinates.

They unified the universe generation. Now the only divider is 32bit or 64bit, and realistically, 64bit is most common.

Didn't know that, neato. Funny enough just until recently I was using 32bit. I got annoyed that it became a coin toss if I could use a program or not so I finally upgraded. I guess in that case coordinates will be much more useful now once 1.0 become a thing.
