Sounds like something that would make a good poll. Right now its hard to say since a vocal group isn't neccisarily the majority or minority.. just the most vocal group.

The Starbound Chronicle seems to be more for the benefit of people who don't constantly visit the forum.

Games I've pre-ordered before they've had a release date: Rage, Last of Us (it does now), Starcraft Ghost (Never even came out), AvP 2010 (or was it 2009 or 2011?), Assassins' Creed 2, and 3. Diablo 3, WoW, most of its expansions. I could go on, most of these I pre-ordered before it even had a release date.

I've pre-ordered many many games that didn't even -have- a release date, let alone a year estimate.

All I'm saying is chill out, be happy and  everyone, even the folks who annoy you. Play something, keep yourself occupied. Starbound will come along eventually! ^.^

All of those games had a release date less vague than "This year", on the count i've pre-ordered some of those myself.

Please understand that not every newsletter will be amazing with some ground breaking, world flipping news. There will be low points, there will be high points. If this newsletter or the next newsletter had the release date on it but nothing else would you guys consider it underwhelming, from what i've read, no guys would you call it the best newsletter considering there are only 3 newsletters. To be honest i liked the things in the news letter. It was cool seeing Soltarus' and Curtis' music and i was glad that i can finally see listen to it without the interference of itunes. I also quite enjoyed the fact they we reached a million, thats something almost no indie game achieves. But nope we're sitting here arguing the fact that the newsletter is underwhelming compared the the last 2 newsletters. Honestly im seeing a lot of bias and impatience from people because they cant control their hype and thats understandable, but please dont get upset when someone defends the newsletter no matter what the content of the letter may be. Honestly the devs didnt even have to do a newsletter its because you guys wanted info that they did it, so, at the very least, be happy that it exists.

Exactly. A paid alpha. I have been playing Minecraft since classic, before survival mode was even thought of by anyone. We realize now, that it was quite an unfinished game at that point, though at the time it wasn't thought of. If Mojang did not enlist the help of the playerbase to input into the development of the game, Minecraft would never be the game it is today. I think, honestly, Chucklefish should release the "pre-ordered beta" version very soon. What people are worried about is an unfinished game. Why not have the community, with many more valid ideas and bug-finding abilities than 20 development teams, help develop the game for you? Then, when the game is "more finalized" (whatever that constitutes), release it officially, to the general public.

Erm... I'm kind of fine witht he newsletters. The way I see it they are not really for us, us being the people who check the site every day and the forums, it is more for the people who do not check the forums and site everyday.

While we may have more bugfinding ability, right now I would say the game is so buggy they have no problem catching more then enough of those a day to fill their coders time and then some. More bug testers simply aren't needed until the major kinks get worked out. More ideas to implement when what they have on hand aren't done.. simply.. isn't needed.

What is needed is a lot of C++ and caffeine. I'm sure we all pitched in on some sodas/coffee by preordering..
As for coding, I don't know about you but my knowledge of it goes as far a multimediafusion2 and 10 print "hello world" return 20 goto 10.

Now once they get to the point their testers aren't finding a swarm of them, then you have a point that its time to bring in some more and there are plenty of people here willing.

Pre-Orders have been live for what? A few weeks? And now people are implying they'll start demanding a refund because the game isn't out yet? Good lord, I've pre-ordered games literally over a year in advance in certain circumstances. Waiting a few weeks (or even months) is nothing anybody shouldn't have expected.

I understand people's frustration about not receiving much new information, but the Dev team is small and their resources are being focused on the game. It sucks from our perspective but that doesn't mean the Devs aren't giving it their all to provide the best possible game they can.

If you're even considering asking for a refund at this point, you shouldn't have pre-ordered the game at all because the concept obviously escapes you.

  11. Who would have the nerve to ask for a refund? It's a pre-order. You're supposed to have to wait after you buy it. A lot of games offer preorders way before the game's release, I've seen examples of around seven months.

I'm pretty sure those games had a better estimated release date.

I don't care if they give a wrong estimate 10 times in a row, at least they are giving one besides "2013".

And games you've seen examples of 7 months, i'm sure were mostly AAA games and not Indie.

  13. They were AAA games. But that's just the difference. If a game with a giant team working on it takes seven months after pre-orders, then why do people complain when a team of ten developers can't get their game out 2 weeks after preorders?

And who really cares about a release date. It'll be here soon, just be patient for God's sake.

  16. I wouldn't mind having a release date, either. But people asking for refunds on an indie because there's no straight release date yet? That's simply insane.

You honestly think people who have been waiting over a year don't deserve a release date? Even the ones who payed 500, 1000, and 2000 dollars? They REALLY don't deserve one?

Guys, I smell gasoline in this thread.

  20. We've been given release date windows before, and then people get angry when the game isn't released "on time". Tiy stopped trying to estimate a release date because he was afraid of being wrong again, and even he's not really sure when it'll be out.
