News on Hylotl and Ocean implementation?

As cool as ship upgrades would be, I'd personally be more excited to see the chucklefish team putting resources into getting the ocean/island biome and Hylotl events into the game. rounding out more of the game's playable vanilla races before going to far on ships and what not. Does anyone know if that stuff is being worked on right now, or has it been sent to the backburner while other content/mechanics updates are taking priority?

TL;DR : where are those dang ocean planets

Not implemented because terrain generation is being worked on.

I think I'll start playing again when these ocean planets are implemented. I'm eager to test out and report on any bug issues for these as well. I imagine a lot of us will have prune hands!

    They don't exist.

But.. didn't Variety is the Spice of the Universe already add them?

    Because variety changes generation.

Ah. I can't wrap my head around how mods add big parts of the game (usually consisting of just one person) faster than chucklefish adds tiny additions. (aka the "daily" updates)

Ocean generation still needs underwater stuff (like dungeons) which is in development.

Mod makers don't really have to spend time fixing bugs or optimizing the game. Other than that they have more free time to develop.

You mean one extra item! /sarcasm

I doubt that. Devs deliver updates in chunks.

You'll see just let them do their thing and i'm sure they will get stuff done. Trust me some games take like 4 months to get a single update. We shouldn't be doubtful.

Actually they do exist - They have been in the game code a long time now - they just were never activated because Hyotyl dungeons generation code has yet to be completed.

Mods - simply activate the unfinished code - which was already made by chucklefish

Those games either had a small team or no team at all. Also organization is a factor.

Even then those 4 month updates are almost always substantial.

If you still want to compare I could show you games that push out more than what the devs do in shorter time with a smaller team.

TLDR You can't compare updates as each situation is different.

Variety already does it, along with another outdated mod.

Right now, water will lag out servers if a couple particles in a lake start updating. An ocean would crash servers outright, let alone an ocean planet. That should probably be addressed, first.

exactly, as in that's a major stability issue within the framework of the game and for whatever reason seems lower (at least based on information by devs) on the priority list then new shiny navigation UI and ship expansion.
