Modding Discussion New to SB - looking to water down Frackin Universe

Apologies if this has been talked about before - Im new. But ive been looking online and havent found an answer to this. I just started playing and I like the character creation screen that Frackin Universe uses - but thats pretty much it. Not a fan of the research tree and just like the simple stuff that comes with the basic game. Is there a way for me to keep the FU character creator, and that's pretty much it? Or better yet, is there a way to default to the original system and keep everything FU uses EXCEPT the research tree?

Edit: Honestly I just want to keep the Tenebrhae ship and character if possible. So cool
