Ooooh cooking. I really like the sound of that.
Though to me that brings up the questions of what does the food do since there is no hunger meter. I am just going to go right ahead and assume that it gives you specific buffs according to what you eat.
    ex:
    • Turkey Dinner gives you +10 to longevity -10 to speed.
    • Carrots give you +10 to accuracy -10 to sex appeal
    • Alien meat gives you +10 to damage -10 to defense.
Also this gives a whole new meaning to my slave armies that I plan on having.

This is probably the closest to the true function of the food since it has been announced...

I do my best to think logically under the given circumstances.
One of my future goals is to make games.

Mmm, Kladdkaka~ didn't know you were swedish though. :0

I hope that there'll be randomly generated recipes, so there'll be a near endless amount of food for you to cook. :DD

food could always be used to heal a player's health bar perhaps?
and cooked food could probably be sold for a decent amount of pixels to some shops etc.

also, food scavenging and cooking could be different quests you'd have to do for a merchant who asks you to collect "this" and "that" for whatever he/she needs or wants it for

  10. I preferred the system where cooked food gives buffs, not health -- makes them less like potions, or whatever'll take their place.

The cake is no longer a lie!

Jokes aside, using food made from exotic aliens to give buffs related to their abilities sounds really cool, kinda reminds me of preparing potions in TES:Oblivion. I hope the procedural generator can do this kind of thing, since it would give us yet another reason to explore and go back to old planets.

That would be just too awesome. Imagine randomly generated pies. Mmmmm...

But kladdkaka is all we really need.

Perhaps pick a body part from those the procedural generator gave the creature and then add a prefix? Like, "flaming talon" or "stone kidney". That way we avoid having a bazillion pre-generated ingredients.
Now that I think about it, we haven't really seen creatures with special abilities in the livestreams yet, have we? Perhaps they could appear only in mid-to-high level planets, and the creatures from lesser planets only give you slight health regeneration instead, to avoid overpowered buffs early on.

Ooh, mayhaps that is how you could achieve the recipes (assuming there'd be recipes that is), by getting randomly generated fetch quests by merchants, then once you've collected all the ingredients for him, he'll teach you the recipe. I agree with nababoo also that food should give some kinds of buffs instead of just health.

Consuming the food will hopefully bring buffs as well as just some health, I'd really not like 'Indigestion' but that might be one of the consequences of eating too much food in one go.

Will the cooking be for food only or will it word for meltable elements, like ores and stuff ?
