I'd love to have some realism modded in, hunger, thirst, etc. Kind of makes me remember that my character is suppose to be alive, you know, when I'm not being obliterated by slimes.

Edit: Character would die before finishing 99 pieces of bacon, sort of counter-productive.

Today we will be making a nice grilled penguin with a salt slime glaze, we'll follow that with an appetizing tentacle sorbet for dessert. First we will start by catching the penguin with this fish and some C-4, now remember kids, only use a little bit, we do need to leave some of the penguin intact. Now that was fun wasn't it? But now that we have that done we can do the actual catching with this net here...


Sounds fun. =P The dev's already said that they aren't going to have hunger and thirst and that, but from the sounds of things it's going to be used for buffs or maybe some healing. It could be that eating makes your health regenerate slowly, while the normal healing items make it regenerate faster. Lots of things the food can do. But I am excited to see that they're adding in a lot more depth then just 'potions' and stuff.

 

I'm hoping someone makes a space Five Guys in a multiplayer server, so I have the opportunity to say:

 

As long as there are baked beans, I'm all for it.

 

This is great. Now my endless contemplating about not being able to have pies in this game is over. Assuming you actually can cook/have pies.

I would very much like if that were the case. I like the element of survival in games. That type of option worked quite well in Minecraft and Fallout New Vegas in my opinion. However, I believe I've read somewhere that there will not be a hunger bar in Starbound, so we can assume food will grant health and/or energy and possibly buffs.

 

Yeah, I think the food can only be consumed for health purposes.

 

Eh, fuck those american foods, kebabs are better, and tatar.

 

Even more elaborate. Chicken and pepper kebabs.

 

There is a temperature bar, so it's possible that there'll be OPTIONAL survival elements, hunger bar as well. Those who don't want them can turn them off.

 

I wonder what's the benefit of cooking food? Restoring HP? Buffs?

They said we're not having a hunger meter, so I'm thinking cooking and its benefits will be like paper mario's: You take pre existing edible items and cook them to create other food items that heal more HP/restore MP (or energy in this case) along with other buffs, like electrify your body that shocks enemies on contact

Very cool! I think that cooking will be something important on Starbound. Like, foods can give you buffs and stuff.
