New tier system feels still bad or worse

You make good points, but I wanted to highlight this. Why? Because I think it's an awesome idea.

What if a farmer or merchant player could use the distress beacon as a way to attract foreign traders or vendors? That way, everyone could require the same item to be built, but the "boss fight" is based on their playstyle. A farmer shouldn't need to beat up a UFO, instead maybe he would need to buy X foreign crops to "reach the next level" of farming. Or, a merchant must have Y pixels worth of merchandise to attract enough foreign vendors, which allows him to "reach the next level" of renown and outsourcing?

And, of course, the fighter can just use the distress beacon and slaughter whoever responds to it, take their ship, and leave the sector.

Fighter isn't necessarily synonymous with blood thirsty killer, but alright, it gave me a giggle.

My question with this is how exactly would this be done? This is starting to sound a lot like an MMORPG style class system, which in my experience is the near opposite of sandbox and free will.

Well, if they have different recipes...maybe one Distress Beacon requires 100 potatoes, and another Distress Beacon requires 1000 pixels, or one requires 50 Raw Alien Meat, etc. This wouldn't really change game mechanics enough to warrant classes, but if each Boss Item has different craft recipes, and each recipe uses something that each "class" would have a lot of, then I think it could be considered. Also, these would then be different items, so the game wouldn't need to check "class" each time the Distress Beacon is used.

This is quite a good idea, but if you had the distress beacon 4+ times it would clog up the crafting system, especially once you get all the way up to T10. You're looking at 40+ items in the crafting menu right there....
I'm not sure of an easy way to fix this unless they can code in an [or] function type thing to the requirements that brings up a second UI interface when you go to craft the Distress Beacon which then allows you to choose which set of items to craft it from.

Good point. Adding more items will only create more clutter, unless they add more crafting stations...which then adds clutter to everyone's CraftHallStorageFacilityShip. This is a tough challenge, I like it!

Any time you add more options to a game you make it harder to make for. Don't make things more complex than they have to be.

The simpler way is to keep the craft recipes the same and let your job have ways to make money and then be able to buy the items you need to complete the craft..

This would work if the thing you're crafting is a Starmap Upgrade, either your trade grants you money to buy the blueprint from someone, or your trade gives you the recipes and ingredients to craft it outright. However, the current Dev plan is that the item you're crafting summons a boss, which requires defeating.

That means everyone has different paths, but they all go through the same gate between tiers: Combat. Fighter types have all the gear they've crafted plus the stuff they've looted, while crafter types may have used their ores or resources to, you know, craft. Not quite ideal, but maybe Chucklefish says "Everyone needs to get tier-appropriate resources for their trades, therefore it's okay to require that they have tier-appropriate armor for their ore gathering"...

I'm not seeing how a pure farmer or merchant would be possible without having to defend yourself somehow. As it is now toward a farmer "build", you start off with three wheat seeds and three race specific seeds. At the very least you'll need to cut down trees and get some cobblestone to make a stone hoe to start tilling land. If you want new seed types, you'll have to go out to find or buy more which will most likely put you at risk of running into monsters and hostile NPCs. It's generally not so easy to dodge bullets, especially if a NPC dungeon happens to be in the way. Personal guards might help if their AI was good enough. This would also be very similar for merchants. You'll have to gather building blocks somehow and depending how the system works, NPCs might not be so impressed by dirt houses. I can only see combat as completely avoidable with a lot of running away, otherwise you'll have to defend yourself in some way.

Adding more items isn't a problem as long as there's a proper sorting system in place.

Well, IF you choose the life of a farmer, then I have two questions:

why do you even want to proceed in the levels, there is nothing for a farmer to obtain in higher tiers.
it also looks like the game is more intendedinto "multiplayer" AND IF you really need the stuff offered by higher tiers youc an trade it with player of the "non" farmer lifestyle. Either the molten core, or just the mapupgrades. So you already do have various ways to proceed.

the singleplayer would need a dwarf fortress like caravan system, Where you can build a station attracting merchants and where you even can place "requests" for specific goods so that returning merchants may bring them next time.

I mean we have this giant spacemap but in the singleplayer mode this spacemap feels static and dead sicne you alone are the one who seems to have a FTL drive.

such a spaceport or traderstation may allow you starting to plant your two startercrops and selling seeds and fruits/food. So the first profit would go into requesting further seeds to increase the variety of your goods. And from here on you can grow your planet to whatever you want.

That's a problem. If the devs decide to make farming a valid style, they should add something for a farmer to obtain in higher tiers.

Maybe they will add waifus! Remember, GeorgeV does like Harvest Moon...

The only way I could think of making this fair and untethered is by having a research/dismantle type mechanic in the game - with multiple paths to the same items.

Examples (better crafting table - tier 1):

    1. CURRENT: The tier 1 boss require X item to call but once defeated gives an item that allows you to make a better crafting table which then gives you access to better minerals and patterns.

    2. Research priorities: You could set your minions (ehem settlers in your home planets base) fields of research which in time will figure out how to make the item needed for the better crafting table - the more minions you have the faster it goes - although you will need to feed/pay them in some way.

    3. Dismantling and examining: Dismantling X un-craftable tables examining them to find how to make improvements could then give you a requirement stating that you need to find something much more solid metal to build a new table with and examining different ore with the right equipment also gave you the ability to craft what you need to make the new table.

I don' think the proposed tier system (or even the current one) is bad, but opening up alternatives could make it more accessible for people that either don't want to play like that or cant get past a certain boss for whatever reason.

    what do you guys think?

great let him add a graveyard too, because poeple will accidently blow their waifu's up with grenade launchers, rockets or simply getting them blown into pieces by giant meteors. And if not that, the waifu may brainless hop into a acid pool and dissolve.

They already have Avian tombstones, warrior tombstones, crooked tombstones, and avian tombs, for all of your "Accidental Separation" needs!

Plus, due to worldgen being dynamic, there's an infinite number of potential waifus, all waiting for you to visit their villages!

but randomness create so many girls that it will already be hard findign the right one. And how should I lay her body in a grave to moan when she just poofes away?
