New Suggestion Section

It would nice to access a brief description of the suggestion right from the list. Hovering the mouse would present the first lines of the original post of that suggestion thread.

 

A third page. That works like the forums could be added? So the thread with a post that has the most recent timestamp appears on top. That slowly moves down as more recent timestamps precede it.

Edit: Or possibly a randomize button?

I have serious doubts about those "over-voted" suggestions. They were over-voted since start of section, and there's also a huge gap between the upper few suggestions and the other ones. I suspect that there were some error/cheating here, like spambots or something.

P.S. I also wonder why some suggestions aren't there? (i.e. Parfelians )

 

Parfelians are there. Last I checked, -6 votes. It's some where page 19 on the New Suggestions tab for NPC/Creatures.

Well it would be nice to check out the new registered users in the board compared to the start-date of the new suggestion-system and how mutch of this new accounts may have voted up suggestions.

At the moment the new suggestion system isnt secure or guaranteed democratic at all, but on the other hand we dont even know if the dev will use the suggestionsystem at this time. Let´s face it, and no offense to the board mod´s, admins or IRC Operators that works hard (and good) to keep the different systems running and check for missbevahior. 80.000 users are a little bit mutch for a crew that have only 2-3 mods/admins online on a regular basis and must monitore it 24/7.

 

My raison d'etre has returned

 

This is a pretty awesome idea, but it still has been executed awfully. For most suggestion types it is literally only the first page with a considerable amount of up votes after that it dwindles to like 30-20 and quickly down to <10. Finding suggestions you like on the forum is tedious and only determined users will even bother trying finding all of the ideas they liked and are relevant. Plus, now it is even a thing to link their idea in the suggestion section to the one in the forums. Most people don't even know how to link specific threads in the suggestions section in the first place and there are also a lot of people don't even know where the suggestion section is. I know I don't even bother looking at the top of the playstarbound page, so I only found out about this today. There is a considerable number duplicate/similar or irrelevant/confirmed ideas, I won't put denied ideas because they actually could be reconsidered.

The most important thing to add right now is a search bar, it shouldn't be too hard to implement and will make the suggestions far more usable.

I still think that adding OP up votes to the one in the suggestion is a good idea. This way good ideas will be recognized instead auto-downed to absolute neglect. If you think this will make too large of a gap between up and down votes you can do one of two things: One)nothing, users will see these new ideas will large amount of votes and if they care they can look at the idea. If they dislike it they can down vote it since it is now visible to them to now down vote. Two) Add a down vote features on the forum. This won't upset the balance between new or old threads because all of the old threads being looked at are being necro'ed regardless.

Sorry for any parts that don't make sense, this is a wall of text and I need to go to bed. Now, whoever decided to implement this knew that this was going to take a lot of work to make right and this is only the beginning of the problems. Quite frankly, if the devs asked me to find the highest quality ideas I would suggest just going through the ideas with the most OP up votes would be the easiest and sure way of finding them.

TL;DR. I do not like the suggestion section.

 

I have matured my idea... if you click on the suggestion frame (or maybe a button) it would shown the first post of the original thread without leaving the list. That would make it easier/faster to check each suggestion prior voting.

 

I've never liked the voting system. Everyone says it's fair, but voting really comes down to a popularity contest 90% of the time.

One of two things that could also be easily added is rather the up/down vote implemented directly into the forums or a link automatically added to forums linked to the exact post in the suggestion section. Making the voting as visible and as easily accessible as possible will help to make a better voting system.
