New ships?

Hey I've been looking into ships and I've been wondering a lot about whether not we will be able to get a new ship all together. I'm well aware of the fact that we can upgrade our ship but I've always heard of it referred to as the starter ship. Will we be able to get new ships or acquire those of other races?

Just a curiosity I'm fine with the one ship just thought that was what the whole "starter ship" thing implied. Thank you two for the speedy answers.

It would be awesome if it was true though. oh well leave it up to the modders.

 

Well it makes sense that we get only one ship (simplifies the coding/program) but I would hope we can customize it extensively much later on. They are making the races in general not very distinct so I wouldn't be surprised if we can end up "upgrading" into another race's ship.

On the other hand I wouldn't mind ships being one of the factors that makes races distinct from each other since there are not many, outside of their actual sprite appearance and their starting tech path.

I could go either way about this, but I hope we can at least customize ship layout in very different ways so my level 5 ship can be way different than another person's level 5.

 

I hope that too perhaps there will be different upgrade paths I don't really know how it works I'm afraid.

So it seems we may be able to get other ships besides our own. This sounds awesome.

 

That looks like the dropship is on the space station which was more or less scrapped awhile back, so that picture is outdated and not as valid. We don't have any real, concrete, recent information about ships.

 

Yes but that was talking about the origins of the drop ship kinda evolved into the spaceship witch was what she was talking about. I'm really glad to see this kind of post thank you dispersion.

 

I believe we would only have one ship at the release, but, in my opinion, ability to change ship would be added in the same DLC as ship combat.

 

Remember seeing some post a couple weeks back about only having one ship per character, but being able to use other race's ships if you wanted. Will try to find the thread for verification and link back here if I can locate it.

Found it, was actually the official newsletter for last month.

Sounds like each race will just have access to their own ship, but you can hang out on your friend's ships if you prefer a different style that they own.

I think when the ships are upgraded, they will look new, or different. Maybe you could change the color of something (if they have that feature).

 

It also would be cool that you could actually use some blocks to modify a bit the look of our ship and change a bit the shape, as we can not get out of it, perhaps it would just be the range that we have for building.

 

Also, they do want to make ship to ship combat if the project doesn't end up being too much. The ship we can see right now looks nothing like battlestations so... maybe once ship combat start being developed?
