So! A few days ago,my friend bought me Starbound. After playing a bit in Koala, and the recent Giraffe update,I have some questions. -Hunger. It was a thing in Koala. But,now,it doesn't seem to be a thing, anymore. Or am I missing something? -Universe. Several characters later,my starting planet in the new version has been 100% stripped of resources on the surface,as well as a fully furnished base, right beside the beam site. How do I change my "universe" so I have a new playground to stomp around in? -Commerce. How do I sell items to NPC's? If at all? I enjoy what I see so far. I'm sure I'll figure out the rest with time. After that? Mods, most likely.
You can just navigate to programsfiles/steam/commonapps/starbound/giraffe/universe. You can delete or copy and move the folder someplace else. This will cause the game to make a new universe. However remember the universe is shared among all characters so this will reset it for "everyone". You could keep a backup of each universe for each character if you want but than you would have to keep replacing the folder for each character when you wanted to play a different one. My personal advice would be to delete only the starting planet so it is fresh and take a new path through the galaxy on each character. There are literally infinite worlds(or many many billions at the very least) because of the seed(coordinate) system. So you would never have to cross another characters footsteps again if you didn't want to.
Hi there! If you have Starbound through Steam, you can go under news and find the recent change log post (or find it on the internet), and it will say that in the Upbeat Giraffe version, they have temporarily disabled hunger due to the vast amount of new recipes for food. Assuming you stripped the resources and not some game bug: you can venture to a new planet to have a new "stomping ground". Moving from planet to planet is free while within the same star system. Moving from star system to star system will require you to have the FTL drive repaired and the ship fueled with Erchius liquid. As of right now, selling to NPC's isn't a feature. You can only buy, but the developers are working on it. By the way, you can find most of the answers to these questions by asking Google because Google knows all. It's a great resource, along with the Starbound Gamepedia wiki. Hope this helps, -Skye
Thanks for the reply. However,I'd rather have a whole new universe to play with, because I want a new start with every character. It's a personal preference.
It'd be better to have the ssame universse, only have each new character sstart near placcess other characterss sstarted. Having them all share the ssame world is pretty nicce tohugh, ssince you can share core fragments very eassily.

Thank you very much,Silver Knight. And I'm an old hand at modding games,so directory diving is like breathing for me. I have no problem with keeping a crazy number of backups in my dedicated mods folder. You,sir/madam/Floran,deserve a gold star.
