New patch is kind of discouraging me from playing

Well this was very helpful of you.... not.
It is true for -some- people. Not everyone is experiencing the same bugs. Perhaps you're not experiencing -any- bugs, and if so, then hoorah for you. But to blatantly call him a liar? Lol

Not trying to make it a worse place. I was just drawing a comparison to the difficulty of other games compared to this one.

..and the punch line is I never once mentioned difficulty.

    grind =/= difficulty

It seems like you might as well change the name of the game to planetbound. I can't see what level mobs are anymore. FALSE

There are now a lot of merchants that don't sell anything. TRUE BUT WHO CARES?

Every planet I've looked at is risk lvl 1 but you wouldn't know that it was once you're on the surface. WHO WOULDNT KNOW IT?

I'm getting this bug that I have to repeatedly port to the planet over and over before it actually lets me. DUDE HAS LONG LOAD TIMES

The cores of planets have no depth at all anymore nor do they have any ores at all in them. FALSE

The cores of the planets being made shallow is a real bummer because I was already envisioning building a city inside the core once the game is out of beta.FALSE, THEY MADE UNDERGROUND EVENTS MORE FREQUENT

Birds never stop chasing me. FALSE

It feels like all mobs have as much HP as a miniboss. FALSE

It just seems like whatever wasn't broken in this patch was deliberately to be tedious. YEAH, DELIBERATELY, HES RIGHT zzzz

The game was 100% more fun before the patch. one shotting everything with one hand down your pants is not "more fun," FALSE

    mmmk?

Because 100 peoples posting the same topics over and over like these forums was their blogs, yes, it makes this place a better place.

I'm with the op. I had 48 hours in the game before this patch, and was only in mid beta sector. I loved the old system, I dug down on my starting planet, geared up, and then started planet hopping. Going up in levels as I went, growing in power. It was perfect. I just felt the armor progression needed some tweaking so we weren't getting hit so hard at the end of an armor tier, and the fact that gold and platinum was so hard to get. Now, even in full iron armor and with a 12 dps weapon(the highest I have found in alpha), i still get hit quite hard by starting enemies. If 3 of them gang up on me, I have a chance to die. These are the enemies on the top of the starting planet. It takes 3 swings to kill them. Its just goofy. I feel like my armor is worthless. And now, if I want to dig to the bottom of the planet, i have to kill the ufo boss first because the enemies down there hit harder than he does! Why do I want to stay in alpha after I kill him? He is suppose to be the catalyst to go to the next sector, yet I cant finish my planet unless I do because you can get any weapons or armor from the other alpha planets!

And then there is the fact that every planet is lvl 1. I went to a planet that was lvl 10 in the last patch to buy a gun. The weapons fort sale there for the most part had the same DPS or just barely above what I could craft. So why then, am i going to other planets. Outside of getting tech, there is no point unless I just want some furniture. The previous system had progression. The new system only progress if you go down. I don't want to play terraria 2. I want to play starbound, I want there to be a reason to go to all these thousands of planets.

Most of that is entirely subjective and based on his experiences alone, so you saying that most of it is outright false is just kind of furthering the point that you're ignoring the things that happened to him personally and not you.

Edit: Also, things like "the birds never stop chasing me" and "it 'feels' like mobs have as much HP as a miniboss" aren't meant to convey the idea that they're absolute, but rather that those are the things that the OP felt at the time. Perhaps a few lessons on reading comprehension would do you well.

Let me fix this for you. The teleport thing is TRUE. After having my game up over an hour, when I tele back to my ship to drop items off and need to go AFK for a moment (30 minutes) and I come back and still can't tele the first time to the planet, THAT is a problem. There's no need to be RUDE about it. MMMMMK?

You did mention birds constantly chasing you and miniboss-esque health. Both of those can be taken as someone saying "this game is too hard" especially with the amount of similar posts on the forums in the last few days.

I don't really care about seeing what level mobs are. I can see why it's important for others, but...neh. I just try to avoid being hit. Before this patch, after this patch...anything can murder me. I'm not a very good player, but I still find it fun. The merchant issue will probably be fixed, and fairly soon more than likely. It's a temporary inconvenience, no more. Someone already mentioned the "easy-medium-hard" thing, but it would be nice, I suppose, if there were some way to tell these things before getting your face ripped off. Again, even an easy could rip my face off though, so whatever they do on that front won't bother me much. It is somewhat better than before, I think, as it isn't a case of "who hits first" as far as I can see now (though admittedly I haven't gotten very far). You might see about reporting your teleport bug, so that it can be looked into. I don't know if it's a common one or not. By core of the planet do you mean the area flooded with lava? If so then it wasn't this recent patch that removed ore and made it shallow, because it was like that in the last patch for me. If you're talking about the area just above it, there are plenty of ores, perhaps you've just gotten icky planets. Shallow wise, it's a bit disappointing that epic structures can't be built in them anymore, unless you go horizontal, but not game-breaking. Birds will probably be messed about with. It's a result of their AI being improved, so they don't have two second memories anymore, sadly. You must have evil mobs, because I haven't seen them have that much HP. It's probably a result of going from "One-hit or be one-shot" to "Hey, I have to hit more than once, and it looks like I can be hit more than once, sometimes." Better weaponry will probably alleviate this.

It is a bit annoying that I have to use coal only early game (unless I spend the time building up to an asteroid or something). Yes yes, I get to inter-system travel-I've been to all three of my planets, and all three of them are rather boring. I keep using my coal for torches because I like digging...Even if I had to do something like turn wood into charcoal, before I could use it, I would prefer that.

I truly cannot see levels of mobs and all planets are level 1.

I can stay in my ship for 20 minutes and still have to repeatedly port to the planet. Its not about loading time, something in the game is hanging up.

You are right, there is one way to get birds to stop chasing. Switch to a bow and the mechanic of the mob disengaging kicks in.

I truly do have to hit mobs 3 times more now to kill them.

Yeah, I could have put my last two opinions better maybe.

In case anyone's curious, I've been sitting here idle in game while replying to posts, etc. I'm sitting on my ship all this time, I go to teleport just now and of course, I'm beamed right back to my ship. 5th times a charm?

All it means is we have to repeat the same actions 2-3 times more now. Its not like the mobs aren't predictable.

This maybe one of the annoying thing about this update.
There clearly are stuff to balance and fix, and they're still changing stuff around, so that people tend to focus on those thing rather than on the main change and discussing it...

Just gonna leave this quote here.

"Stage 1 will be move at a breakneck speed. This will be the buggiest and busiest stage of the beta. A bunch of unfinished features will be disabled whilst we finish them up. Updates will come thick and fast, sometimes as often as multiple updates a day.
If you choose to take part during stage 1 you should expect bugs, lots of balance changes, you shouldn’t get too attached to your character or universe as we may make changes that require you to start from scratch. You should expect the game to be broken at points as we make sweeping changes but you’ll get to enjoy exciting new content added constantly. The engine won’t optimized during this stage of the beta so performance could be poor on some low end machines.
You’ll get to see a bunch of ‘behind the scenes’ content at this stage and provide feedback during this crucial period.
DO take part in this stage if:
    - You enjoy testing buggy and unfinished code
    - You enjoy providing feedback
    - You want to leave your mark on the game
    - You just can’t wait any longer
DO NOT take part in this stage if:
    - Bugs infuriate you
    - You don’t like spoilers
    - You can’t stand losing your save
    - You want the full Starbound ‘experience’ the first time you play."

More what I'm getting at is that claiming that the OP's message is just "I want the game to be easier" glosses over a large body of the provided thesis to hone in on one or two points made, which is fallacious in the extreme. :p

Some of them are known bugs (like the bird thing, maybe the coal thing). Some of them appear to be design decisions that it would be nice if Chucklefish addressed (like the wood not being usable for fuel thing). Some of them are numeric changes still in flux (like damage/armor/enemy health balance).

The supposed "point" of the Progenitor phase of Beta was to hunt for bugs and provide feedback on the current path of the game. The OP basically does both of those things.

I suggest you try OpenGL mode if you're not. The load times are a fraction of the DX version, at least for me.

If that doesn't help then I think going over to the ship controls and fiddling around with them, or re-flying to the planet you're on fixes it.
