New patch is goddamn brilliant

First impressions are everything on these boards so I just wanted to say well done. The changes to the leveling system combined with not being able to use wood as a fuel source is simply genius. Finally we have incentive to explore the entire system before venturing outward since it's cheaper on the coal to explore within system. Finally we aren't just stuck jumping from lvl 1 to 5 to 10 to 15 to 20 and now EACH AND EVERY PLANET has a value and a reason to be discovered.

The changes to combat also feel much improved. Sure, some monsters on my starting planet are tough to handle, but the changes to mining and making resources easier to find has helped alleviate that some by making early Copper Armor more accessible.

I'm noticing more variation in sounds too, which is a very welcome change.

These are only my initial impressions, but I have a feeling the quality of this patch probably translates throughout it's entirety. I will do more testing tomorrow as I've already put off more than my fair share of sleep over the past 5 days, but I just had to make this post b/c all I see are negative post titles about the patch.

Again, well done guys. This is a step in the right direction.

Alot of the things are probably bugs from the devs putting off too much sleep as well.

 

What exactly in my post gives you the impression that I'm being sarcastic? I tend to shy away from sarcasm on the internet since it usually falls on deaf ears anyway.

Gotta jump on the bandwagon with the OP here. I think the new changes are great so far. I'm very pleased.

Nope.. You're going to have to dig a little now, but it should also make exploring the planets within a system more worthwhile

 

And... dare I say it... exploring asteroids. Y'kno, it's not that hard doing so on a small lvl1 starter planet. After a good long run, you should have loads of dirt, coal, and wood to create a tower to get up there, and the fires to keep you alive. After that, plutonium is an excellent fuel.

 

Exactly.. I just read in another thread a bunch of people whining about removing wood as fuel and they were claiming that wood makes a great late game fuel source... er what?
