New Patch: Fuel

I just don't see the need to remove it though. Just change it from it's 2:1 ratio to something more rigorous like 4:1 or even 10:1.

Or even just add in the extra step of crafting a still first and having it made at the metalwork station.

Like a nano-separator upgrade for the matter manipulator?

BACCHUS! The Mr. Fusion is exactly what I figured the fuel system was. I tried wood originally, and was delighted to see it gave fuel. Coal? Yep! Wow, how fun. Toss in the trash I would otherwise delete to go places. Bananas poison me! That's ok, I'll throw them in the Mr. Fusion! All these "crappy" weapons that are worse than my starter sword? Toss them in the Mr. Fusion!

Options options options! But I guess wanting variety and flexibility is wanting instant gratification and ignoring the story and ZZZZZZZZZZ.... sorry, fell asleep from the sermon I was giving.

 

Read the patch notes, they gave you enough fuel variety. Just not wood, now quit acting like an infant.

Alright, so now you can smelt logs into coal on Starbound. Added the smelting recipe to my mod. Costs 10 logs per 1 coal.

 

But I don't want to abandon my Mat-mip.

So here I am... with a crappy starter planet and hardly ANY coal without diggin for like hours - and I can't even get off the planet because I have a hard time finding 25 coal.
Seriously, I want to explore - I do not like my starting planet. Who the heck had the idea to un-fuel wood?

trees > sapling > grow trees > wood > burnance > coal
axe upgrades > more wood collected from chopping tree
lumberjack "tech" aka modification > grant more wood when chopping down trees
more coal dropped per block mined > 1 block mined drop 2~10 coal totally random and not 10 be lowest rate and 2 highest no casino pls
mining any block chance to get 10% coal
particle converter >input junk > output coal
particle condenser > input coal > output high density fuel (has very high fuel value, higher than solarium)
-------------------------->input uran > high density uran fuel > even higher value
-------------------------->input solarium > high density solarium fuel> most superior fuel value


solar panes >installed on planet > work during day > require energy gems (rockriders from lego , green one gems)
solar panels charge the gems , jump to ship put intro engine > u get engine charged >output empty energy gem (dark colored)
use empty gem on solar to charge it again

well i can continue but not worth it....

 

well considering the starting quest line is about how u are stranded with no fuel and are trying to contact another ship for help ....it seems damn good to lose the wood.... ur stranded work for your freedom

Which is exactly what we're doing, so I fail to see what you're saying. :B People are discussing the idea that it doesn't work. It's okay if you disagree with that idea, but don't try to nullify their argument by saying that we're not allowed to beta test this beta.

The changes they make aren't going to be because they "please the community", it's because the community pointed out a flaw/good idea that they decided to change/improve upon, making the game as a whole better. If you don't like the changes, discuss and dispute them, don't pretend every change they make is set in stone. This is the process of a beta development as they make changes. In the end, not everyone will get what they want, but a better product will be made as a result of our combined opinions.

 

People got to zoom around a fictional universe at their leisure, and then it got harder. People get serious when they get to go fast.

 

How does coal as a fuel not work exactly? All i see is a slew of posts saying "i don't want to mine, rocket me towards the action please".

 

yes because thats what many of us prefer. is a sand box and we are being boxed in to mining in a game billed as "freedom to do what you want".

 

I actually didn't that you could even use wood for fuel but yet was always completely fine and had more fuel than I needed.

 

This could be the solution, but I think the ratio would have to be more like 25:1 or 50:1 for coal or other fuel ores to ever be used over wood.

 

Sandbox is not a code word for ultimate freedom. You follow the game's rules or you modify them.
Sandbox means you get to stray from the main storyline, you're not told go here and here only.

People seem to have given the word their own meaning which is "don't touch anything and give me as many options as possible". That's not how game development works.

 

Funny, when I said I wanted to mine I was told the opposite

 

If they add more decorative block types in the future, then I could see that much being necessary. But as it stands now, you have to choose between either build that 10 mile high statue of Bender, or jumping to the next planet to get materials.

You're thinking of an "open-world" style game. Like Saints Row, or the lego games.
