New Patch - Annoyed Koala : Ugly Star Map !

Discussion in 'Starbound Discussion' started by Psygnosis, Dec 10, 2013.

?

Star Map with planets of the same Levels or previous patch Star Map with the random Threat Levels ?

  1. I want back the old Star Map ( Irritated Koala patch )with Planets that have different Threat Levels

    53.6%
  2. I like the actual Star Map ( Annoyed Koala patch ) with Planets of the same levels

    46.4%

lol - that's the point, there is NO LOGIC in the new star map with the SAME Threat Levels for EVERY planet in each sector...

Until they add NEW content on the planets. You are too nearsighted pal.

I think people are forgetting what a beta is and I don't blame them. Take all the other game companies out there who use beta as a marketing technique and have zero intention of fixing stuff or altering things prior to release lol.

We are blessed to have a real beta.

Ill say what I said in a similar thread

When he said there would only be 10 levels I assumed each new sector would have threat level 1-10 planets, and that the threat level (instead of determining monster levels), would give you a loose idea of potential dangers. Most likely factoring in things like the ratio of easy:medium:hard monsters, the presence of acid, hostile towns, harsh temperatures, difficult dungeons, bosses, and whatever other crazy things they add in the future.

Seemed great that we could potentially search for low threat places for simple farming and mining, and move on to harsher skill based climates for more risk and reward. Man was I disappointed when I saw that every planet in alpha was level 1...

Ye, but is a beta or not? We must test or not?
We are talking about how is the game now, not for the future, therefore is obvious say what's is wrong, in our honest opinion.

I'd like to go a step further and suggest our ship can mine for us, once we get an advanced laser-groundmatterfyer. (thats a real word...).
Like that scene in AvP, no?, nobody saw it?, ok.
Well their ship blasts a hot plasma like beam down into the planets surface, creating a tunnel.
Dev's ya reading this?!. probably laughing right?! :p.

Not sure if yet another of these threads is needed for that. But fair enough.

Thats actually neat idea. Tunnel for fast access to lower levels of the planet. Juiced by tons of Solarium or Plutonium.
Then you just need some freezing grenades for the lava and some gel grenades to cushion the fall from the ship. Would be awesome.

    What about this solution :

    - Keeping the current sector proggression with Alpha (1-10) ; Beta (11-20) [ I randomly set levels, I didn't finish the Alpha sector with getting the first Boss.]

But simply add a new Sector which doesn't corresponds to any defined difficulty, simply a full random sector, which could be reachable at first minute of playing, else with a particular item which improve the navigator ?

In that conditions, we keep both linear and random proggression.

In my opinion, going back to an old version isn't the solution. They changed it because there was a problem, going back to the problem doesn't solves it.

You totally missed the point. And nope, we don't rush the game, it's the game that make you to rush now.

I want to search for the ores, not that they come by foot in my house.

I would say just remove the "threat level" text from the actual nav system. since they are all the same level it isnt needed, and moving up sectors will already convey to the player that there is going to be a difficulty progression as well. I like the idea of not know what awaits me on the planet

X-Sector is 5-10 threat level planets.

    hm did not know that.

I still prefer not knowing, but i can see how that would complicate the issue

It doesn't make any sense to me: while your starship plays starbound what will you do? play another game ?

Well, after having a look at the map, I think you're right thinking we should make different threat levels on a Galaxy, the problem here is that everything is Lv 1.

As I said it before, something like Alpha(1-10) ; Beta(8-20) ; Gamma(18-30) Could be smarter.

Just like Irritated Koala, but with new sectors. On the other hand, having something like (Weak/average/Strong) in a sector could also be selected. It's closer to a linear progression, with still a kind of randomness.

Also this can be a solution - That's why I've said there is no logic in the sectors now, with the same planet level ( all of level 1, etc etc ) !

I just played the game thinking they removes creature levels and try to balance global threatness coming from creatures statistics.

But having a whole galaxy with same creatures you one-shot everywhere is kinda worthless, ...

The exciting part of the game , was going explore a Lv 8 planet even if we're just clearing a Lv 4
