New method to Boss Spawning

I will be frank, I'm not all that fond of the method used to spawn bosses, it feels a bit of a lackluster form of progression.

Build the robot, just to kill it, and take it's parts to make the next Tier?

For the first boss, the UFO... I can live with that, that's okay, I guess.

However I feel instead of building this robot, why not have it's parts be found in dungeons and underground chests?

Are the bosses in later tiers the same? I'm waiting for the weekend before I play again, so I can do so with my friend from back home.

I'd like to see a variety of boss spawning methods.

Crafting the robot did confuse me at first. I thought I was building some awesome robot pet, but reminded of when I crafted the distress beacon ... I wisely assumed this thing would start up and try to kill me. The next boss is similar - craft some unusual item now available in your crafting menu and click on it to see what horrible thing it spawns.

Finding the items in chests and dungeons is horrible since it relies on the RNG too much. Some people would never find the pieces while others might find them all in 1 place. Too chaotic for a method of gaining items for progression. the later bosses all require you to build some sort of item or items in order to fight.

It'd just have to be a more common item, something to get along the way, as you're digging and exploring, or perhaps even newer methods, like a certain kind of planet or biome would have a sort of Egg or something that if destroyed will summon the boss.

I'd say being able to make the T2 boss with the Robotic work bench so you can resummon him more on your own, I think would make more sense.

Also it doesn't have to be a straight random percentile, it could be an increasing percent chance with ever chest you open.

Personally, I think that the items crafted should more or less be "keys" to dungeon planets. For example, as suggested in a different thread, the robot goes flying off to inspect the gamma sector, only to start sending you a signal from a specific planet and you have to go track it down, where it suddenly starts attacking you. If the entire planet is just one big dungeon with a Megaman-eque boss fight at the end, it might be cool.

You sir have a great idea, and this I do like. Building the robot to supossidly mine and such for you, but ends up going else where, or other items that will... not all the bosses, but maybe 2-3 of them

Thank you. I had made a suggestion thread about it, so I guess that's all there is to do about it. Not sure if the devs will see it or not, but maybe they've already thought about something like this. Supposedly one of them said he really wanted the bosses to be more like the kind you find in Megaman and other classic platformers.

Really, it would allow for a lot more interesting things, as the design of crazy things would branch out from just the bosses to also their personal dungeon. I mean, the robot's dungeon might just be traps and jumping puzzles, while the Penguin UFO might be a mad dash through massive swarms of Penguin soldiers. Hell, they could even do creepy stuff, like a boss who's dungeon is pitch black with nowhere to put a torch and you're forced to use either your flashlight or a lantern as you fight your way through eldritch horrors that hide in the shadows. You know they're out there, but you don't know where. You know, fun stuff.

THIS. Sounds fun as hell. I'm all for "dungeon planets" too, that are all dungeon with a boss at the end. Just make sure you can't just dig through the walls
