When I watched the human intro... I don't know, it just felt a bit cheesy. I know that this game can be a bit "cartoony" at times, but if that silliness is the entire lore of the humans, yeah... SO... I would think the lore should have a bit more depth than "tentacles!! ahhh!". It should be like a nuclear world war, making Earth uninhabitable from radioactive fallout. Humanity's only choice then would be to either destroy themselves, or unite and search for "New Earth". So, using the same voice acting from the original intro, I made what I think the human intro should be... (Keep in mind, this is what I think the intro should be, I don't want to sound like I am screaming at the devs or anything.) Please give constructive feedback. Thank you!

i like the intro; there was peace and it was shattered by something un-human. having to run from home and you don't know if your family made it. a sudden shock that yes, you are alone now just there...roaming the emptiness of space with nothing to blame but a monster that you can't defeat; you want to become stronger, smarter and braver but not for humanity, for yourself. cartoony? i don't think so. side note here! the devs have been working with the human lore really hard :c they even have a tentacle planet you can land on and everything! it'd be a shame to see it all go away.
You want the humans in the game to reflect humanity in what we perceive as the real world? Let me pose the least logical explanation where a nuclear war may arise - that is, a nuclear war that would affect humanity. - Kim Jong-un loses it under the pressure of sanctions, aggravation, etc. and does something compulsive like convince his people that the other nations are majorly inferior and it is time to remove them from the planet. North Korea first attacks South Korea, the U.S. intercepts the missile. China then launches its own nuclear weaponry at North Korea. Peace treaties are broken, and there's an all out nuclear war. No matter where you were on the planet - you would not be able to escape. We do not have the know-how or resources to build massive 'space-ships' to escape. ESPECIALLY if we were limited to a small area that wasn't flooded in radiation. Unless, of course, you want to skip two or three millenniums into the future - which would possibly make a nuclear war today seems like a spitball fight between two organizations. It's not as though humans would develop better weaponry without increasing their defensive capabilities. "Cartoony" makes the most sense to me.
How about we have a situation where the Illuminati's interference at Black Mesa causes the Reapers to invade Earth until they're repelled by Duke Nukem, but the Earth is left in varying states of decay. In America the only survivors took shelter in great underground Vaults, while in Australia the Main Force Patrol tries to keep the peace as petrol reserves deplete. In a desperate move, the American, British, German, Japanese and Spanish governments send their populations into space to the Sirius Sector, but overshoot and end up in the Korprulu Sector. Meanwhile, the rest of the world build their own ships and flee to a new galaxy where Starbound begins.
So... take Starbound, but make it Fallout? Nah, I like the current intro. And It would make for a better story, trying do discover what it was that made the humans flee
I don't think the intro needs to be changed, just redrawn a bit. Tentacles emerging from the inside of the planet would cause a way more devastating chain of events. The planet crumbling and exploding from space could look a great bit more epic, especially if the atmosphere is drawn rupturing with clouds being pushed away and bits of the planet's crust are launched into orbit. What's drawn right now looks like an octopus hatching out of an Earth-like egg and that's just silly.
Lore cobbled together from Deus Ex, Half-Life, Mass Effect, Duke Nukem, Fallout, Mad Max, Freelancer and Starcraft, FTW!
