I think they're a great improvement on what's in the current character creator.

Okay, yeah. I know what you mean. Nothing quite seems to satisfy with those aquatic guys. To be fair, it's pretty tricky to make good fins (I tried).

 

I think they fit the race perfectly.
What else do you want?

 

as I said, im no expert, so I dont really know what exactly they need. but I do feel its missing something.

 

As for me, I want them to sparkle and grant wishes, obviously.

Well let's face it, the Hylotl are strange, so by extension so will the "hair styles" and everything else, I'd think.

 

for a good bit, I thought making a long hairstyle for the hylotl females was going to be impossible. after a LONG experimentation, I learned that it is not only possible, but also pretty. I did my best to make the hair appear to be fins, but also beautiful and elegant. I came a long way from the original prototype, which was the following image:


As you can see, its not great. The hairstyles that I am presenting are my first sprite works, so constructive criticism is welcomed.
Here is the finished, product, and I surely hope it makes it into the game. The community is a great bunch of people, and I'm sorry I've been so quiet for so long. Now its my turn to contribute to the community. Thanks.

 

We need a Haruhi Haircut...

 

An anime character.
But even though I passionately do not want anime or other totally clashing styles bleeding into this game, the above avatar's haircut (Haruhi) would transfer well into a sprite, and it's a rather "normal" looking haircut compared to some super exaggerated styles in some shows.

 

I like cosplay items/etc, and I see a lot of demand for it, But I think there should be more focus on original styles.

So when someone sees a cool hairstyle or item, they recognize it as something from Starbound rather than something Starbound is referencing.

I could not agree more. So many people want their favorite character's/game's hair styles or clothes or items or whatever to be in Starbound, but this is a slightly unfair request/pressure to make on the devs and it does not really make for unique, memorable, original, or distinct art styles or content. It really is cool to have some nods and influence from great games and pop culture, but at the same it is important to put a focus on originality, instead of making a mutt game of everyone else's stuff. Which won't happen I'm sure...but it's something to keep in mind, I feel.

As long as we don't feel entitled to what we want (entitled people should be slapped - seriously) and as long as we are not upset when something we hoped for or requested is not included in the game, then that's fine. It's harmless to ask, since this is a suggestions thread, but we mustn't make demands or act in shock that something is not being put in (this is all to the general reader, not to Zone IV of course).

Really, if you wanted to dump your favorite anime character's sword and favorite plumber's hat into the game - wait for modding. Then you can have what you want and more, without feeling like it's Chucklefish's job to do it all.
