I'd lean towards hilltop for her because she likes metal bars for her machines, it's similar to her home, and she could get better views for her telescope (due to being higher relative to the surrounding terrain).
I was thinking more along the lines of her building a guardian for her hubby so I wouldn't have to install a furry mod just so I can put my tail between my legs before I run away from the Skull Cavern.
There's an old friend of my dad's that literally had a yard like that, this was when I was a kid. My dad visited him a few years ago and said nothing had changed - beercans from the 80's were still there in the yard. Old farmhouse in the middle of nowhere in Kansas. lol
Sounds like Pam would feel right at home... Penny, not so much. She's trying to get away from that sort of environment. I can't make a choice until I have more information. Right now, all we have to go on is a short video clip and a handful of pictures that I suspect were cropped from the above.
The normal dog, 3 Doberman Pinchers, and a genetically altered dog, 'smuggled in' from the Gotoro Empire? In all seriousness, this kinda news is interesting. You may have to think outside the box for farm placements. Still, I wonder how the intro scene with you, Robin, and Lewis would play out on some of the other layouts, being as far as we know, there isn't much of a mess, and the Wilderness farm wasn't shown off in the vid.
Nah. Hounds. At least one female that is pregnant or has puppies. Oh, an' watch out fer th' coons under th' porch. Dang critters think they own th' place. Nah, we're doing redneck, not ghetto.
Oh, trust me on this one, dear. I've more pickup trucks and Stars-and-Bars around here than the entire run of 'Dukes of Hazzard', and you cannot /get/ breakfast in this area without grits. It's 'dawg', very much so.
Anyways... I wonder if we may have to think Minecraft, and have good lighting sources to keep the monsters at bay if one does go Wilderness and wants to farm at night. The preview pic only showed torches and a campfire, and they were about to get attacked.
I was curious about that too. Wondering what the rules will be with monsters, like, can they damage your crops, bother your livestock etc. Or do they just show up when it gets dark and you can kill them and that's the end of it? Guess we'll find out.
Monsters in Stardew don't seem to have any reaction to light, one way or another. What might be useful, depending on how the monsters spawn, is fences and other barriers. Those won't stop bats or other flying creatures, but they may be able to keep the other wandering monsters at a distance. If they spawn, say, on the edges of the map, or in specific areas, then keeping your fences in repair might be the best way to keep your farm safe. This had me wondering, too-- there's still a lot of debate about if fences are 'necessary' for livestock (i.e., their moods and the rumours of wolf attacks), but if monsters can actually attack or at least scare your livestock than suddenly fences become a very real issue.
In the screen shot of the wilderness farm the monsters are inside a fenced area. And if I am not mistaken, it is also right outside the players house. EDIT: I also noticed that a gate has been left open in the upper right of the fence. Maybe that's how they got in. Then again, maybe not. EDIT 2: There is also a gap in the southern fence line that is partially obscured by the pine tree.
I noticed that too, which is why I said 'depending how they spawn'. If monsters just pop up anywhere on the farm map when your back is turned, then keeping them fenced out becomes pretty much impossible. If there are specific rules to how and where they spawn, then you can plan for that. They might also spawn in the same way as monsters in the mines-- that is, once you clear your farm, there are no new monsters until you leave/come back during the night. That would be rather strange to deal with. You poke your head inside the cabin for a couple of minutes to put something away, come back out, and suddenly there are monsters everywhere. They were just waiting off-stage for you to turn your back.
Plus, it may stick to the early game monsters, so by the time you're efficiently leveled up, they may not be too big an issue. Besides, it ain't like they could sic Skull Cavern levels of monsters on ya on Night 1.
That's actually another thing I wondered about! If they don't give you a sword to start with, then you're using axe or scythe against the monsters. Will they start them off weak and make them scale to your skill level, perhaps? As you go up, the monsters do as well? Or will they just be low-level monsters like bats, golems, and slimes all along, making them a nuisance after you've got a decent weapon? Dang it, them golems is in the potater patch ag'in. Fetch me my spray can and git a trash bag fer clean'n up!
Nuisance is right. I already ignore the slimes in the secret woods when I go in to chop wood. I wear the charmer ring so they can't hurt me, so all they do is effectively get in my way. Their drops are worthless to me so I just let them live, so long as they don't get underfoot.
I like the layouts except for the fishing one. I hate fishing! Other than the fishing one, I can't wait to try out the different Layouts and see which one I like the most. Hopefully there will be a few surprises for each Layout!
