So, by now many have viewed that short video of CA showing off some of the 1.1 game footage, including the exciting new multiple starting layouts for your farm. I've taken the liberty of copying the flavour text from each of the starting farms shown on the menu in the video, and this is what we've got coming: Standard Farm: A simple plot of land with a large amount of open space to design your farm. Riverland Farm: Your farm is spread across several islands and scenic riverbanks. Fish are more common here than usual. Forest Farm: The woods limit your farming space. However, the bounty of the forest is nearly at your doorstep. Hill-top Farm: Rocky terrain and a winding river make it difficult to design your farm. However, a mineral deposit provides mining opportunities. Wilderness Farm: There's plenty of good land here, but beware, at night the monsters [text obscured, probably 'roam' or 'wander'.] So, looking at each of these, we see that in addition to the vanilla farm layout, we'll get a chance to fish, forage, mine, or fight on each of these different setups. The Wilderness Farm intrigues me-- are we just going to get wild slimes, or will we face more dangerous (possibly new) monsters who come out at night? Will this finally make closing gates and barn/coop doors more important, so our livestock isn't at risk? Right now we can only fish trash up from farm ponds, but now we'll be able to get some river, perhaps lake fish right on our own property. And the Hill-top Farm is likely to either have a small cave to explore, or perhaps will spawn minerals in the same way the quarry does now. For those of us who like to forage, blackberry brambles and other wild botanicals on our own land. Looking at these possibilities, what layout are you most looking forward to giving a try?
I am considering both Forest and Riverland layouts... well, technically speaking I am already using the Forest layout by self-limiting myself to a very small farmable space while keeping as much forest as possible, I wont really know how similar or dissimilar it ll be until I actually try it out. As for Riverland layout... that one I am most intrigued by! I saw in the video that it has some beautiful trees in some islands (like that big tree south west of the farm, west of Marnies ranch) I love the fishing minigame in Stardew valley, and having the chance to do something like that readily available on the farm besides the typical things will be such a great addition. (and this makes my 1.1 save absolutely obsolete)
I am so excited about this. That wilderness farm will definitely give the game a bit more of a challenge, I like it. Probably gonna try that one out first or possibly the Riverland farm, I like fishing a lot. But I definitely need to try all four new layouts out, no question about that But will we get a sword straight away? Gonna be brutal to start out with nothing but a scythe to fend off bad guys.
i reALLY want the forest farm for fanfic reasons. since my fanfic's farmer has her farm.... in the forest. YEAH!! that'll probably be the first one i do! the wilderness one looks RAD and i look forward to (hopefully) new monsters and just fighting in general. i'm just AHHHH i'm so excited
I've been doing much the same for a long time, only 1/3rd of my entire farm is developed and the rest is all trees. But I think the big change will be that seasonal forage items will now spawn on the Forest Farm layout, so you can find wild mushrooms, hazelnuts, berries, etc. on your own land for the first time! (Other than if you planted the seasonal wild seeds.) I am very intrigued by the potential forest layout, since I really love the trees.
Scythe buff Yeah I just love the way everything looks with trees packed tight! and... hmm, I suppose having forage in the farm will pretty everything up, plus picking stuff for gifts! or for myself... hm
I thought your initial plot already had quite a bit of trees. Do the trees in the Forest Farm re-grow themselves, like the ones in Cindersnap? That's one way to enforce a very small farming plot... And really, the most challenging of them all sounds like it is going to be the Riverland Farm, because it appears to have the LEAST amount of land available for tilling.
Well, I'm certainly going to be using the River farm first for a new save when the update drops. I tend to not have time much for fishing in my current game, or at least much time after all the caving i do.
Given it specifies that 'the woods limit your farming space', I suspect the new wooded areas may not be trees you can chop down at all. They may be the same kinds of scenic trees in most parts of the map-- not oaks, maples, or pines. Otherwise they wouldn't pose a limit on your farming space, because you could simply remove them as you do the general trees on your farm. Possibly it will be dense overgrown areas of non-cuttable trees that spawn forage.
Oh thanks for doing that, I had to pause the video several times to try and get a look at it. lol I definitely want to check them all out but I'm sure the Forest Farm will probably be the one I go to first. I am still pining (ha, get it?) for that Secret Woods map that Ali made that I can't use because it won't work with my expansion mod...I doubt this will look anything like that BUT I can still have the sense of my farm being tucked a little bit further back in Cindersap. I will enjoy the challenge of decorating each type though I'm sure, and it might give me a good excuse to make multiple files and try some of the other marriage candidates. I know the idea of doing a big chicken ranch with Shane is high on my list. hehe
If trees respawn, like in the Cindersnap, you won't be able to put anything down, because when the sapling re-plants, it auto-overwrites whatever happens to be there, which will also limit your farming space. The Chicken Ranch, eh? Gonna get Dolly Pardon to run it for you?
I see what you did thar. But oh man, super excited about new farm layouts. That is a very pleasant surprise that I wasn't expecting to be implimented so major kudos to CA for adding a feature I didn't even realize I wanted so badly. I am not sure which map I'm going to go for.
I predict that in an about a month I will make up my mind and choose one. When I have a chance to click the menu for myself.
Hill top farm for me!! I love the idea of having the different levels to play with. It may, won't be sure until I have it in my hot little hands, really allow for me to have themed sections. Like, one section is for my chickens, the other my vineyard, another one for crops, and so on.
Hmm.. hmmm..... guys I'm so ready for this. I'm definitely gonna make 2 more saves, one for the river and the other for the wilderness. That's gonna be the flippin best. I'm so excited. I also think I might try out the hilltop farm cause that just seems cool.
I would like it if it were possible to have all of them, but only one is unlocked at the start and the others can be obtained for increasingly stupidly high amounts of money so that we have somewhere to spend all that cash we're gonna get from all these new artisan goods and hopefully recipes.
He mentioned a lot of secret buildings. Maybe.. maybe.. hmm.. was it one of the ones he said would be expensive or another one?
