Lol, I was just being honest, chief. There's no need to get salty. I actually like challenges. I'd rather not have this game become a simple hack n' slack where you can literally faceroll your way to the endgame material.

This and make sure to wait till just after they launch an attack before you strike, but only strike 1-2 times. Any more will result in them getting you.

I won't say it's impossible to attack them with melee weapons, but it is quite hard. Considering you are trying to swing a sword at a bird in flight this isn't bad, but the game punishes you too much, and they are far too aggressive IMO. I had a bird I tried to ignore chase me for 5 minutes. I couldn't get far enough away.

This must be unique to certain planets or something. I played for an hour or so last night on a new character, ran all over the place on my starting planet, and only came across a handful of birds. Yeah, they spit acid, but they weren't that hard to kill and didn't do that much damage.

Before I would say no they're fine but now, I say yes for this reason: I was being chased by 3 birds, I use one of the status pods and get speed. I rush away have way around the planet to my base. I settle down craft and etc. That's when I see the three birds like 10 minutes later.

<-- This was my beginning experience with the patch. Admittedly I was on a server with other people, but this was the starting planet of the server. The birds were evil, EVIL. Plus the lizards had chainsaws, but that was awesome.

The 'beating' of the game happens after you start it, not when you start it. If you can't even walk for 5 seconds before dying, you can't actually play the game. You can't survive, you can't make a bow, you can't harvest anything. It's not a matter of something being hard, it's dying immediately with no option to 'beat' it.

Birds are just plain-out evil now. In early game, it becomes a pain. I just started a new character, an Avian, to test how the game would run on my laptop, as I beamed down from the ship, I already had 2 birds after me, both were from the same species and used a special attack of breathing poisonous gas. Used my started 2h sword to shoo 'em away, but... as I did that, another bird came by and used the sonic air blast thingy. My avian was now down to "critical" HP and I had to beam back into the ship.

TL; DR: Their previous AI worked a little bit better than the actual one. While it IS interesting to see some birds being more vicious than just running or avoiding you, it shouldn't be the behavior for all the birds. After all, they do have a major advantage over us ground-walking creatures... especially in the early-game.

Yeah, going back to watch my video I came to realize, the aggressive ground enemies are just as aggressive, but have a harder time navigating the terrain. The birds however have no issues as it's wide open, and due to that can harass you to no end. Perhaps fixing the ground enemy AI and then nerfing aggression galaxy wide is in order.

Yeah i know, it makes it easier to kill the ground enemies because of the terrain.

Another thing I just noticed is some birds generally disappear right as you die. Are these spawned specifically to hunt the player down? That's truly evil...

If they do disappear that is just evil but, I havn't noticed that.

On my latest save, that's just what happened lol.
Died -> came back to where I died -> birds are gone. then I decide to walk a little bit to the right, aaaaaaaaand there they are, loads of angry birds. (Pun intended)

There's a difference between challenge and cheap hits.
The birds are currently cheap, instead of challenging. I'm not saying we should casualize the game just because I can't "git gud". I enjoy challenges. This is just cheap.

Nope, and there were plenty of birds with all sorts of ranged attacks. Still not too much of a problem though.

I've noticed that behaviour with ground mobs too, when you die they also disappear, I don't think it's just the birds.

Cleared out a threat 10 USCM prison. The biggest threats were machine gun using prisoners and a bird that got stuck in a tower. Bird hit for 190 with an explosive projectile
