Modding Help Need mod ideas 1 > 0

    Hello i need some ideas for a mod considering I'm out of them. Please see what i am capable of by checking my previous mods before posting something absolutely ridiculous.

    a no intro mod. there's modified intro's on nexus, but a no intro doesn't exist yet.

    the intro... of the game... where you have the chucklefish and the giggling. a couple people on nexus mods have changed the intro, changed the laughing. I'm saying to remove it all and go straight to the game screen where you can choose single player and multi player, options and quit. this way you don't have to wait for anything. into the game faster and no waiting 5 extra seconds :up:

    Just removed it and it doesn't effect the loading time any other ideas :(

    right, I poked around at it too... was hoping someone could do it proper. so many games have no issues taking out the intro, not sure what to do here :rolleyes:

    Starbound still needs to load it's assets first. This is part of the reason why splash screens are used in the first place, to hide loading times.
    At most you could save ~4.5 seconds, but only if the assets were loaded faster than that. Maybe if you are running Starbound from an SSD, otherwise it is pointless.

    As for ideas, I haven't got any to share, sorry. Try playing the game normally and see if it helps spark any ideas of fun or useful mods to have, or maybe play other games and see if there are any interesting features which could be brought into Starbound via modding.

    @M4CViz I found a small list of mod ideas I had a while ago. I haven't looked into making them yet, so I don't know if they are possible with Starbound's current scripting capabilities. The two ideas listed here are intended to be Techs.

    - Decoy mannequins.
    Enables the player to spawn a decoy on the ground near them. At the very least the decoy should be able to distract hostile wildlife chasing the player. (I presume there is some sort of aggro system for NPCs so they can decide what to target.) I was also wondering if there was a way to spawn a decoy which resembled the player so it would be useful in PvP.

    - Barrier.
    Using this would create a limited barrier around the player that faces the direction of the cursor and blocks incoming projectiles. It would use one of two methods of energy consumption:
    1. It would steadily consume a fixed amount of energy whilst active, OR
    2. The shield would consume energy only upon being hit by a projectile, however it would absorb certain damage types and convert the damage into energy instead.
    I'm not quite sure what 'point' you are talking about, other than that people don't like intros, unless that was your point? :confused:

    Well, if you've ever heard of Fullmetal Alchemist I have been considering the possibilities of a mod dealing with it.

    You could use techs to do alchemy and what not....just a basic idea.

    And modding body types or making a race for someone with automail would be interesting as well.

    Granted, if you've never heard of the show this would mean nothing to you, but I'd consider looking into it at least, I feel it'd be a truly interesting mod for this game especially.

    Do you think you could look into making a mod that adds more ores, sectors/sector upgrades/ higher tier planets that go along with it? I have looked into this myself but the best I can do is make an ore. I can make the ore, but I ran into a wall when I questioned myself on how I would put the new ore into the game. Also with those new ores there could be new item crafts like with the other bars, like beds, chairs, lamps things like that. Weapons and armor for the ore would be nice to have too. It would just be like adding on to the game. If possible, it would be cool to include higher damage randomly generated items in the chests too. Higher pixel drops from the monsters, alloys made by mixing coal with the previous bar, just like the bars of ferozium. You have to mix coal and aegisalt at a metalwork station to get a ferozium bar. If you could add pickaxes for the higher tiers along with drills. Some ore could serve as a fuel source too like solarium or plutonium, but the new ores would have a better amount of fuel per ore. And with the higher tiered planets you could add completely new biomes as well possibly. Like maybe a crystal planet. It would also be cool to include space stations or larger space ships that you beam over to. You could either befriend or conquer the ship and take it for yourself. This would be a cool mod, I know it would take a long time to get this mod completed.

    Exposing fall damage for those of us who love/hate it. I'm in the camp of people who think that no fall damage makes navigation through the world irrelevant, but it seems with the latest patch there is no simple way to change it. Plus, even if you do, it historically had no impact on the server. So there you have it, a mod that allows configurable fall damage for servers.

    If it's easy, that's great. I'd really like to see it made.

    Its not there is no simply way.
    Players can no longer take damage from player.
    I dunno if this is disabled permanently or temporary..
    The reason they disabled it is because they used to have items which healed and did damage. This caused the game to crash.
    Seems they haven't fix it yet.

    What does this even mean? Splash screens exist because load times exist, not the other way around.

    I would like to see a script for NPC behavior that would make them attack buildings on planets that are created by players. Also would love a mod that had a random chance of spawning a Zombie attack that you would have to fight off from bases or homes you have created on planets.
