Need for a protagonist

No. I know about the corruption/crimson/hallow from Terraria... they seem more like a pain in the rear than a fun mechanic. Aside from building/questing/farming, it would instead be purging planets of an annoying spreading curse that makes everything look ugly and have annoyingly powerful enemies.

Assuming agarans are meant to be a floran enemy, the floran final boss could be Thornwing due to his connection to it. Humans would obviously be against the tentacle monster. Hylotl... Greenfinger? Seems most likely. The apex would obviously have a 1v1 with Big Ape (there are already items in the game implying we'll meet him at some point). Avians would usurp Kluex, tear the wings from his back and throw him off his space station, and liberate Avos. The glitch would likely be working on a full-scale hivemind purge, perhaps by finding the mind in which they are all connected to and using the sever machine on it.
The novakid... yeah... kinda just there. They don't really have an enemy. I mean, I suppose CF could make some outlaw for them to fight. Or something. I don't know. We'd need more lore for them in order to draw a conclusion.

 

Well you do have that giant monster that destroyed earth and could do the same to other planets, that seems pretty antagonisy. When they get ship combat up and running maybe you could battle the other races for the control of the galaxy, then you can pick and chose who to make your enemy and ally.

 

All Antagonists and Protagonists are relative to any given Race's perspective. That is part of what makes Starbound great, it's a diverse stage of Race biases, Backstabbing and manipulation. All through your perspective on things. Though they could do with fleshing it out.

Floran and Glitch are actually friends. Why wouldn't the Antagonist for Florans be the Hylotl? But either way, this is an open world sandbox game. There really can't be a main antagonist. Or rather, a main antagonist isn't really all that important/wouldn't work that well.

 

There is a difference between finding an enemy and finding a worthy opponent.

Floran hunter. Ssstab food. Ssstab trouble. Ssstab annoying fissshy.
Not ssstab with no caussse.
Not need risssk with no gain.

 

If there is going to be an antagonist, I'd like it to be different for each race.

 

"But either way, this is an open world sandbox game" not exclusively. If I remember correctly Chucklefish have said it's going to have more RPG features in the future (it already is very RPGy)

Floran players in general. I have nothing against roleplaying but it's a bit annoying during serious discussions and you write like a Floran, I kinda have to decipher your post lol

 

To me it's just a pet peve that some people do this, but it just shows some people are more fanatic then me and I would not hold it against them.

 

Well, there is some antagonists in the lore.
Human - Tentacle abomination
Apex - Big Ape
Avian - Kluex, I guess?
Glitch - The Hivemind in general, or maybe Creators.
Hylotl - Florans? Maybe Greenfinger in that case. There's not too much Hylotl lore yet.
Florans - Oaken soldiers they dream of, possibly.
Novakid - i dont remember

Also, there are Cultists, eye guards (which might be related to the tentacle beast), penguins, mysterious 8th race, and Agarans. Closest things to a main antagonist are penguins and the agaran thing, whatever it ultimately is. Thornwing is related to the agaran stuff somehow, and he looks pretty evil. I'm pretty sure Thornwing will be a major antagonist, if not the Big Bad himself.

 

Novakids - Solar railroad companies

 

I play as a Novakid, and I think I can help on their storyline.

You see, unlike the six other races, Novakids... don't have an antagonist. When you select to play as one, the lore simply says that you wake up in a destroyed ship with no memories of what happened or how you got there; you're simply there. Maybe, instead of having a clear knowledge of who your enemy is like the six others, Novakids have to figure out what happened that destroyed their ship by exploring for possible clues.

My personal clue is that your character worked as a ranger and was fighting some sort of famed space outlaw(not Dreadwing), but utterly lost, and in the sheer damage, got an amnesia and can't remember his/her former job, but I'm just spitballing here.

 

that makes enough sense, though you dont need the part about amnesia because novakids forget things easily already
