Nationalism"Nationalism is an infintile disease. It is the measles of mankind." - Albert Einstein Side CommentI would assume that making a thread about Nationalism would make the majority of the Starbound Forum's Members neglect this at given opportunity. But, if you do care you would be continuing to read about this the thread. So, I thank you if you still continue to tread through this thread. So, let us begin about this thread about Nationalism and the different types of it that could be implemented into Starbound. Also on the side note, I do not mean to argue with any Nationalistic people as this is just an idea to Starbound. Nationalism's VariationsSo, as to state. There were different variations of Nationalism over the time of years. I will put a few well known examples of Nationalism for people to understand what this means and sorts. Matriotism - "Devotion to one's mother country." Junkerism - "The militaristic, authoritarian spirit or character." Patriotism - " Devoted love, support, and defense of one’s country; national loyalty." For these are several examples of different variations of Nationalism. This will play out further into the thread. As these are some of the more common Nationalistic ideals people have been living with at some period of their life time. So, as these three are stated, I will use these to structure the rest of the thread. Nationalism, How It Plays OutSo, as I stated somewhat earlier. I would use three of the examples I used to structure this part of the thread. So I will do so. So anyway, as some players would be patriotic over their chosen race, they would protect it from any opposing force. As this will work with randomly generated villages. ( I think thats what it is called at the moment? ) So, as there is a 33% chance of choosing Junkerism, Patriotism, & Matriotism. So, each one has its own unique effect on what the village acts and how it is run. So, I begin with Patriotism, the most generic one. PatriotismSo, as for example. Great Britian is a patriotic country and others included. Why not having a patriotic village? So, this wouldn't really effect the village to a point you would notice but anyway. So if you meet a Avian Village that are patriotic, complaining or tarnishing their race would severally effect them. As you took offense to their race and how they feel about it. So, they would warn you at first. ( As they are gentlemen. ) Warning the player not to tarnish their reputation and spread lies about them. But, if you continue they would go upon a hostile state of mind. All villagers would attack you as you angered them enough. This is what would happen if the village was Patriotic. JunkerismSo, what if you meet up a Junkeristic based village? As they are militaristic, they would be concerned about their weaponry, tactics, defense, and etc. Meaning that you would have a slight trouble killing all of them as they are under Junkerism. So, this would effect the village on the attack/defense ratio. To also see if it is a Junkerism based village, look at the people that are armed and armored. Which, will give you a small hint that they are under Junkerism. Attacking them would be ideal for a small challenge but not able to farm them for their gear and loot. ( Work in Progress. ) MatriotismClearly, to be terrible. Russia is the prime example of being a Matriotistic place when Communism was still around. As they were proud about their country. This, would be about the same as Patriotism, but in a quicker action. As, if you even mention once about tarnishing their reputation, they would automatically spring to attack you. As they take full pride of their race/village/etc. They will do whatever it takes to stop people from tarnishing their name any further. This is closley like Patriotism, but I clearly can't go highly detailed all about. ( Work in Progress. ) To the point, these are three different nationalistic ideals for villages to be run by. Yet, I know this is still a work in progress, I'll try to update this to be complete sooner or later. If you have any critiscism, do tell me I do not mind about it.
I Have The Bad Feeling This Is Going To Be Shot Down Harder Than My Alignment Thread (Don't Go Dig That Up) However, Unlike That Thread, This Is A Good Idea.
Ekarny babay! Why do you write about nationalism and offend Russia? Stop living stereotypes! Not a bad idea, but I doubt that will be a big city where it all really can work.
I feel this has no place in Starbound. Neither does the font. I usually read through things carefully, but that actually hurt my eyes. I had to stop mid-way.
Yes, I predicted this would happen if I posted this. I would assume politics would not be the best thing to be in Starbound. This was more of a test thread to see the effects of Political threads. Ok, I'll change it to a more suitable text. Also on the side note, I would assume this would happen as politics isn't the best interest to everyone. Yes, I know this would be a other reaction I assumed would come true. Because I'm a bigot I might aswell include Russia because I'm some dipshit. Fairly sorry if I offended you and/or anyone else. But I do also thank you people for actually critizing my works. I know this is not one of the best threads you've seen. Or one of the best threads I made, I will take note that Political designs and ideas implemented in Starbound is clearly not accepted. Now thank you.
It's really not that I dislike the idea of politics in a videogame, it just really doesn't work in this type of game in my opinion. Also thanks for changing the font.
While I'd actually find this interesting, it reminds me a lot of the Villages mod in minecraft, where you'd wander into a village, everything would seem fine, then while you were standing there trying to figure out how to make friends, they all decided to murder you, because god only knows why.
Well, I think that this kind of game is perfect for politics (mostly NPC-wise), where you can do pretty much anything, influence anyone. Some kind of system that would give reason for villages, towns, cities, planets, or star systems to war against each other/specific races would be nice, but nothing too game-controlling. Starbound should obviously not be centered around politics, but back/side story is always cool.
I completely agree with you. I mean I already knew this sort of outlook of this thread would happen. But this could hardly be implemented into Starbound.
