While I realize I've beaten this dead horse alot, I think names would have fit alot better with Space Stations, sort of like a world is named in Terraria, you name the Space Station and that's how you show up in multi-player, the NPCs reference the STation's name when they are talking. Like "I was wandering the wastes, then [PN] came and gave me purpose! Now I'm travelling with [PG] aboard the [SSN] sure am happy to be of help!" call backs to the player name, their gender, and then the Space Station name, it would add another itsy bitsy feeling of depth and customizablity to the game that I'd smile at everytime I saw it.

OT: I'm not sure, I think I'll name it after I've played for awhile. Usually I'll refer to it to friends by a commonly dubbed name, that we've shortened because we're American and lazy. So it will start out something like "Always drops us into shit." Then we'll think we're clever and shorten it to " Let's go back to Dropshit guys" and voila, the ship name is born. Yes, we're horrible people. Sorry

 

I find it much better to have a normal or even silly sounding ship name, and have it become (in)famous for the many great adventures associated with it rather than just the name. In this way, even a ridiculous sounding ship can become the dread of every outer-rim star port or the thing people pray to for salvation when they are attacked by space pirates. Here are some examples of ship names that I would seriously consider:

Barnacle Belly.
Red Tide.
Phillywhipper.
U.S.S. Ahrr.
Rosebud.
Smirking Platypus.
Butt F***er.
Yellowfin Flounder.
Drink Pepsi.

Better to be silly and end up having an awesome reputation than to try too hard to be cool and fall into obscurity. Take hardcore competitive gamer tags for example. HomeMadeWaffles, TheLittleOne, XTC, HighFlyer, BananaSplit, Day[9], etc... There are probably just as many that are more serious, but people who tend to go with names like SilentSpectre or FluxWolf or whatever tend to be a little less impressive in my experience.

It all started with a simple typo, and now they are feared throughout the galaxy.

 

@DeadlyLuvdisc combine Butt F***er and Phillywhipper and you get Butt Whipper . Yay I'm creative, sorta. Not really.

When I name my ship, it will be the christened 'The Favor House Atlantic' and will contain multiple compartments with a bar, live bands, a 'Stargazing' room and sleep quarters.

 

I think I'll go with an old classic and name it "Heart of Gold."
