Name yer Ship

Rat's Nest for this one, as I am a pack rat; kind of.

Too many of those apex lockers in my ship, with a storage barge in mind. After all I wanted to create the Universe from system to system, so I can visit them later by chance with another character. lol

 

My Hylotl ship, "Starfish"

 

My glitch would probably call her ship "The Wrong Neighborhood"

 

I know it's lame, but the Jackdaw.
(Lame because already used, AC IV)

Jackie D is one of the names I've gone by, cuz Jack can kinda be whoever.
Then I watched thirty rock and Jackie D was a thing, so I added Dawes like the last name of a friend I'd lost, not knowing a Jackdaw was a bird.

But the Jackdaw was a pretty name for a ship in AC4 so hey, it works.

 

I named my old ship the Stargazer. On one hand, gazing at stars, on the other, flowerpuns.

 

Iron Blood after Primarch Perturabo Flagship. Or Exelion from the original Gunbuster anime.

AI, upgrades, crew... Starbound spaceships are getting lots of new and interesting features. However.. there's a pretty cool minor feature which nobody has thought about yet: SPACESHIP NAMES.

Think about it: Enterprise, Millenium Falcon, Titan, Arcadia, Daedalus...
All cool spaceships have names... so why not yours!

I mine Ian M. Banks' Culture novels for ship names. All the ships are sentient and give themselves a name that they think reflect their personality. My favorites include:

The Prosthetic Conscious

The No More Mister Nice Guy

The Gray Area



In addition, instead of a simple and traditional ship designation like U.S.S. or H.M.S., I give them crap like N.D.S.. (No Designation Specified) or O.P.U. (Original Port Unknown).

The most recent is the N.K.B. (Need to Know Basis) Flexible Demeanor.

 

I just call it the Kuun-lan since cataclysm was my favorite homeworld thing.

 

I would have to say...

I would have different names depending on what race's ship it is.
Avian: Kluex's Wing
Hylotl: The Hellbender
Apex: Big Ape is Cool!
Glitch: The Magic Boat
Human: Apollo 237

 

The good old Piece a' Ship.

 

I might need to name one The Deathwing, after everyone's good friend Deathwing.
Or, if you'd prefer, I could just name my ship Death.

 

Leaning towards Galatea, Bastion, or Aquitaine, but I may also go with Belisarius. (Whoever gets the reference gets a cookie. )
