"She's an old one, but you can have her for cheap." The skinny old salesman said, showing off a toothless grin. I walked the perimeter of the craft, sliding my hand across the somewhat rusty outer plating. She was full of dents and she certainly wasn't pretty, but for whatever reason I could tell she was as reliable as they came. I asked the man if I could check out the cockpit. He gave me an affirmative motion and I hopped in. The air inside smelled old. Not the kind of decrepit old, but the kind of old that you find on a worn tool. This craft had been in it's fair share of hopeless situations and it had managed to make it out of all of them. That most definitely meant something. The tech was outdated, the paint was scratched, but this vessel had something about it that made me long for her.

"What's she called?" I yelled down to the salesman below, who had just lit a cigarette. He took a quick puff and threw another empty grin my way before answering.

"This one's called the Anomaly. Dated 2XXX." Anomaly. A deviation from the norm. A departure from an established set of rules. It clicked then and there in my mind. The Anomaly. She was perfect.

"I'll take her." I called down.

I was sure that this would mark the beginning of a long line of adventures for me and my new ship. I couldn't have been more right.

hmmm... Mameshiba? Comet? Sprocket? Nova? Athena? Sega? Splint? Cato Cruiser? Or I could name it after one of my dogs, Goomba and Reznor.
