Dictionary time: apex means the highest point, the summit or culmination. The Apex seem to be technologically advanced indeed, and I get the feeling they think very highly of themselves as well.

My thoughts: Robotx is rather hard to pronounce without accidentally adding a vocal between T and X.

As to the subject of naming them, I like just robots. All of these wordplays on the word android, robot, mechanical, etc. sound silly (opinion alert), while computers have always stuck to simple and concise labels.

I believe they would either be named by the race that created them, which could be anything or, if they chose their own name, it would be the simplest and most concise label for their species.

There's a lot of names floating around, but what would robots call themselves? Perhaps using binary, or a model number since they are machines after all (though possibly with organic components.)

 

Considering that there will be many worlds with thousands of millions of inhabitants each, they probably call each other with IPv6.
