My Turrets are killing my Villagers/Pets!

    So, this is more of a 'practical fix' than a creative, 'lets add this new feature' suggestion.

    I've often times set up bases of operation with turrets to kill off the many beasts and birds that nature seems to throw at my area, and I'd prefer these beings be gone from my presence. That is what the turret is designed to do!

    HOWEVER, I've tried to start villages near some of these bases, and add new NPC's to this village that are friendly (or ought to be. I DID place them myself.). ... Problem is that the turret is designed to kill ALL NPC's, regardless if they are desirable or not. This upsets me, especially when I want to protect my villagers from the hostile NPC's and from the creatures on a planet, and instead have them destroyed by the thing built to protect them, thusly wasting pixels on spawners that I would have to continuously replace.

    I'm wondering if there is a way to better designate certain NPC's as friendly or hostile to your own turrets, so at least they would have a purpose aside from killing off everything in its path?

    Turrets are nice for hostile areas and bosses!! They're great!!

    but if you think of a real world application .... turrets are mainly defensive contraptions.
    Defensive contraptions defending PEOPLE against "BAD" PEOPLE.

    It would be like me being enlisted into the military and being assigned to a base of operations, and then getting pelted by a lead shower at the front gate just because I just so happen to NOT be the engineer who built the turret.

    ... like playing TF2 AS the Engineer, and then having your turret killing off your own teammates.
    Worst TF2 round ever.

    ...

    Anybody else agree or disagree?

    Current turrets do seem to be a WIP (as evidenced by them only being 1 pixel to purchase), so I suspect they will be refined as time goes on.

    In the mean time, perhaps have them set up at one way "defensive towers" you place just bit outside the village, and design it such that NPCs don't leave to be safe. Perhaps require double-jumping. or falling down from a platform. Or something else the NPCs don't do much.

    Yeah, the game really needs a way to make it impossible to accidentally harm a friendly NPC. Hope it's coming in next five updates at least.

    Agreed. Automatically targeting anything that is hostile to you or non hostiles and anything you attack sounds simple enough. A whitelist of friendly players also wouldn't hurt to add.

    Yeah, I was all stoked to place turrets, then to my horror is shot and killed my NPCs. It would be cool if we could select an option on the turret as to whom we want it to fire on.

    I once accidentally killed my chef with an impervium sword. I had no idea you could kill npc's you spawned

    I have been having an issue where the turrets will lock onto my pet while the turrets will not damage the pet they do not target other high priority targets rendering the defenses useless unless the pets are removed

    More turrets do tend to be annoying, like how in multiplayer they also sometimes target Prather players who are even in your group, while humorous..it does tend to be annoying

    They need to fix this. I'm sorry, but if you go through however many updates without fixing this one simple issue, its no longer a simple issue, its a "fix this now!" I would rather not have to spam guards that TRY TO FOLLOW ME AROUND because the sandwurm's retarded cousin with legs keeps spawning in my complex!
