Hello! I recently was thinking of all of the things that I thought would make Starbound a better game, so I decided to type them all up here on the "others" category of suggestions. Lets get this started. -add arms crafting tables (if you have never heard the term, "arms" it means guns) -add a crafting recipe for thatch -randomize villages a bit instead of having 1 template that is used -make items despawn within 5 minutes -make guards forgive you for hitting someone after 3 minutes -make a delete button for characters (make a "are you sure?" screen also when you press delete) -make Impervium weapons -nerf asteroid fields (the amount of stinkin ores!!!) -add an unbreakable floor to asteroid fields (currently, if you touch the bottom of the asteroid field, where the screen stops scrolling, it kills you instantly and it is extremely hard to get your items back without touching the floor) -add a craftable anti-asteroid field (or just make asteroids do damage and not destroy blocks) -add an auto-backup feature that makes backups of characters and worlds every 5 minutes or so in another file location besides the players folder (once I was loading up a character, and BOOM, my computer crashed, so then the character was deleted and I was forced to start a new one, but if there were backups, that wouldn't have been a problem) -fix the bug that causes wires to disappear -add configurable controls -make dungeon blocks unbreakable until you make it to the end of the dungeon (currently, you can break the blocks and just skip to the chest at the end) -do not make turrets only 1 pixel to craft, and make turrets something that you have to add to the 3D printer first, not something that comes standard -(this is a problem with a lot of games, and I HATE it) make a crafting recipe for pretty much everything, I hate it when you have to scavenge from presets to get some exclusive stuff!!!!!! I just want to make an apex fridge without robbing them :/ It feels too cheap -that now leads me into this suggestion, NERF THE STUFF FROM PRESETS, I can do SO much by just going into an apex village or something and demolishing it! -now I am lead to the next one, make guards get angry at you for breaking their blocks -add higher tech furnaces -add a crafting recipe for chests using wood and iron -make double chests have double the space NEW: -add an incentive to not put all of your stuff on your ship instead of making a house on land -fix the diamond backpack icon -nerf the bubble boost (if you just tap the jump button over and over again straight up or diagonal, you can keep gaining altitude and distance while gaining energy) Well, that's about it! I really hope the devs use all of the above in the game, and if one of you devs sees this and likes some of them, please tell me in a post! All of these are reasonable, not like a noob saying, "OH! lets have an item that you can craft with a new crafting table that lets you throw around npcs! That would be awesome because I would never be touched again!" -.-
I thought I'd add my two cents to the discussion, so here goes, responding purely to the suggestions you've come up with... - Arms crafting tables: Sure, guns need other tools to create than a bow, a different crafting table would be fine. - Censorship: This request is just retarded, by that extension your forum name should be censored away because it has the term "perv" in it. Randomly censoring things just because there's a certain sequence of letters in them makes no sense. - Thatch recipe: Sure - Randomized villages: Varity is key, if you meet the same thing all the time you will have no urge to explore. I agree completely. - Despawn timers: I am assuming this is to combat lag due to too many entities, but it won't really do that unless you keep a hard limit handy as well. I'd say possibly, but I'd need to see the reason for why before I'd agree or disagree. - Forget timers: Guards shouldn't chase you forever, though I find a timer based solution is a bit half-assed, I would personally prefer a "making amends" solution, but timed isn't necessarily bad. Some actions should make you a permanent enemy though, such as killing a villager. - Chat delete button: That has been done and is still worked on. - Impervium weapons: No comments on this other than not every material should be able to be used as a basis for equipment. - Nerfing asteroid fields: No comments. - Unbreakable asteroid floor: No comments. - Anti-asteroid field: Only if there is a constant resource requirement in order to upkeep said field, else I do not approve of this. If you don't want asteroids then you shouldn't settle in a place with those hazards. - Auto-backups: For the lazy-man, sure, but only if it keeps say 3 backups and auto-deletes the older ones. - Wire poofing bug: Sure, bugs exist to be fixed. - Configurable controls: I am sure this will come, but aye, would be nice. - Temporary dungeon protection: That is being worked on. - Turret cost: No comment. - Crafting recipe for everything: I somewhat agree, though racial specific things should be available only to that race, however the NPCs should sell furniture, etc.. I don't want to rob the NPCs, but I currently have no choice if I want a particular item, I'd love the option to go shopping for both furniture and block-types. - Nerf presets: I disagree here, if you raid a village and raze it to the ground, then you should also get some valuable stuff for it, but instead do something like flag the player as a known criminal, making previously friendly villages hostile towards them and eventually if they continue down this pass make bounty hunters come to seek them out to bring them to justice. - Guard block protection: Yes, guards should protect all parts of the villages and outposts, if people want to be a dick they should also pay the price. - Higher tech furnace: Sure, it feels odd to still use the same old furnace when you've advanced everything beyond that. I made a suggestion about making a grinder smelter which while only processing ore allow you to melt them at a higher efficiency by throwing in gravel as a grinder catalyst, thus also giving a purpose to gravel other than being simply a cosmetical resourse. - Material-craftable chests: Being able to craft chests from real materials just makes sense yeah, agreed. - Double chest double space: Agreed, this always bothered me.
So...you see no issue with a word describing an illegitimate offspring being used as an insult, yet don't mind using a label for mental disability as one instead?
@Jonesy Sorry, but how exactly is the sequence of letters "bastard" in a random name an insult? But to answer your question, no, I do not. In fact I had a discussion with someone else a couple days ago around the same topic. The term retard has become a politically incorrect term to use to describe what it was once meant to describe, now you must say mentally challenged, whoops no that one is out too as of not so long ago, handi-capable? Nope, even that is out. Instead the term retard or retarded is now a generally accepted synonym for dumb or stupid. Words change meaning, but that is not what I argue here. I argue that the worst thing you can do is to censor all willy nilly. Where I come from there's been a case going around about a clinic advertizing breast-enlargement surgery on the busses by showing naked breasts (of a very modest size even), and some butthurt over-zealous politician decided that he could make a name of himself if he complained about that. Well to cut a long story short his complaint was turned down with the reason, "No matter what you do, you will always piss off or bother someone. If we limit what we can say or do to what won't make anyone upset, then we could never do anything in this world" and I personally support that notion with all my heart. Oh, and additionally "bartard" is not a swear/cuss word at all. It is a term that describes a child outside of regular marriage, true enough not normally a positive term, but it has never and will never be a cuss word.
How is this awesome? In all seriousness though, I honestly didn't bother to read through all of the suggestions because I generally don't like to read walls of text. Upon randomly selecting a few of your suggestions in this lazy wall of text, I noticed this: Well done. If it wasn't for you, the devs probably wouldn't have bothered fixing this bug, or adding configurable controls. This is why I dislike "plethoras" of suggestions. They're not cool, lazy and pushing away more audiences than they are drawing near. They're a pain to read because there is literally no space between the suggestions, and some of them aren't even suggestions. But hey, not all is lost. I do agree with you that double-sized chests should have double the space.
you do realize that I was saying that that is exactly something a noob would say, right? Not something I was really saying was awesome and also, don't hate on the censorship, some people would prefer not to look at that if they don't HAVE to. One more thing, I was just listing everything that came to mind, and the bugs came to mind, so I put them down. Did you really think that I thought that they were completely unaware of these bugs and I was the ONLY person to point this out?!? Ikr, some people just need to lay off about how others feel about this stuff.
Some people need to accept the difference of other people's views. You come with a proposal, I state my own point of view on it, both of which are equally allowed. The way you presented this request for censorship makes no sense, even less so when you count that bastard is not a cuss word. The reason I say this is so that you can try to come up with a better reasoning behind your argument.
@ImperviumAvian The word refers to an illegitimate child, born of parents not officially married and unable to inherit certain property and titles. The word is often used as a negative term, but just because some people uses a word negatively does not make it a cuss word. If you use that sort of reasoning we'd have to ban half the dictionary.
Well, as i know, bastard sword is sword with size between two handed and one handed. So... there is nothing bad in this word.
... wait, what? its not a kind of sword, its just a cuss, like you can find names like "futile bast***"
Yes, bastard sword is a real type of sword, @JC_Fruit is correct. A bastard sword is a heavy sword that reaches to around your belly button, lacks the length of a full twohander and is wieldable in one hand, but to be effective needs two hands due to its excessive weight, thereby giving it its nickname a one-and-a-half hander or hand-and-a-half swords. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classification_of_swords#Longsword_and_bastard_sword
In regards to the new additions... - Ship decentralisation: Aye, this always bothered me too. To me the ship should be a small sustainable world on its own, a hydroponics bay that gives just enough crops to keep you alive and fed but without the abundance that allows you to go on extended adventures, somewhat limited storage, etc.. Even the greatest spaceships needs a harbor somewhere in the universe other than to just simply refuel. - Diamond backpack: No real comments here. - Bubble boost: This sounds like a definite balancing issue or even a bug. Would like to see this fixed too.
I use it all of the time to get to infinite heights or to skip over enemies, especially when I die and I am unarmed and have no armor I use it to get my stuff back with ease
