    Hylotl

“Today we bring a change to the stars as the tide once did to the land.”
    - Telaret Mon, High Chancelor of the Hylotl.

When faced with adversity, most beings in the Milky Way Galaxy stand tall and push forward to a brighter dawn. The Hylotl are no exception to this rule, in fact, to some they are the definition.

Having evolved on a planet comprised of nearly ninety five percent surface water, the Hylotl became a pinnacle of what most societies hope to achieve. Using the intelligence they achieved through evolving among an ocean full of creatures that were sometimes ten to one hundred times their size gave them instincts in survival most only dream of. That instinct is said to be the one defining quality that saved them when all practical hope had faded for the race in their greatest time of catastrophe.

The Hylotl were still a relatively young agrarian society with no space faring technology when they faced an event of global and devastating proportions. The star in their planetary system entered an extreme solar cycle and their oceans began to recede and dry, leaving them little hope of survival. The waters would take almost one hundred years to fully dry up, but in the end, that was all the time they needed.

In that relatively short span of one century, they achieved great things in the fields of science and engineering. They had pushed themselves from a society of tinkerers and ocean farmers to a fully capable space faring society, and launched themselves deftly into the darkness.

They had saved not only themselves, but all of the species on their planet by storing great libraries of genetic information so that the many species from the once great Hylotl world could later be reborn elsewhere. Great ships capable of holding not only trillions of gallons of water, but also the billions of Hylotl themselves, launched and not a single one was left behind.

For most Hylotl, it was hard to adapt to the cold dark of space, as much of their time had been spent in the warmer regions of their oceans. As time passed, and they found more and more planets to be barren or dry in comparison to their home-world. In time, the Hylotl evolved legs to walk upon the new dry worlds they discovered and shed their once necessary caudal (tail) fins. Valuing their ocean born heritage they soon they formulated ways of creating water from almost nothing, and started to build oceans of their very own on planets they encountered.

A race now nearly four hundred million years old, they are considered the oldest race known to exist. Many Hylotl naturally live to be almost a thousand years old without the need of life extending technology, and most hibernate for periods even longer than that to extend their experiences into new unknown millenniums. To the dismay of most races, most Hylotl, having grown wise through the years still favor farming and a simple life over that of building grand technological cities. Many explore their own inner beings as much as they do the worlds around them, and many others find solace in solitude.

Today, the Hylotl, sometimes called the “Ocean Bearers” by other species among the stars, are responsible for nearly thirty percent of the galaxies existing water. Some even theorize they may have once brought water to Earth long before Humans evolved there.

I adore this suggestion. That's all there is to say about it.

The only problem is that it makes them a bit mary-sueish. I mean, being responsible for the vast majority of water in the galaxy and being the oldest sentient race? Eh.

But then again, this is sort of balanced out by their technophobia and hobbit-like unwillingess to adapt to change. I like it.

I don't know what to add, it's obviously well though out. Part of me says we don't need another race that's stuck in the past as far as technology goes but the other part thinks that it'd be really cool to see what it'd be like for the Hylotls, especially with this idea.

They aren't stuck in the past, they're really just more nostalgic. They prefer the old ways, but they do have high technology. They live in small villages and are mostly farmers, but that and technology are not mutually exclusive.

That's what I meant, I couldn't think of a way to encompass the Avian, Floran, and Novakid technology, as they're all.. unadvanced I guess is the word, even though Avians combined high tech with their spears and such, Florans reverse engineer, and Novakids make advances and technology but leave them behind.

Different cultures have different outlooks on technology. Avian are high tech but are culturally similar to primitive south American civilizations. Florans are pretty much just the zerg, that goes without saying. Novakid are geniuses that keep reinventing the wheel because they put no effort into preservation.

    I don't know why you're re-stating what I'm posting, but you're doing it better so I guess I won't complain. :)

They decide to have happy simple farming lives? What could be a better counter to the 1984 Apex than an Island race!

  9. It's a Good Idea! It looks they didn't announced this race yet Because they don't have the Lore / WallPaper / Aspect Done. ^^
But the Blue Idea Fits what I imagined for this race.

I didn't care too much about the Hylotl before now, this is a very interesting back story and i hope it will be similar to the official lore once it's released.
