Hey everyone, just wanted to share my opinion on the new patch. Personally, i feel this patch, although it added a lot of new cool features and removed some old bad ones, is not the best. This patch was made to balance the game better, yet it feels less balanced then ever before. I spawned on my new planet with my new character (i miss my ushanka) and am easily 1-2 shot killed by monsters with projectiles and such. Thats not so bad i guess, BUT, on the very same level 1 planet, i found an avian underground temple thingy where just killing the avians, i was able to obtain tier 2 weapons! Before i even had a stone pick i had tier 2 weapons! It's a bit ridiculous in my opinion. In the course of about 5 min, i went from getting 1-2 shot killed, to 1-2 shot killing my enemies. Also, i personally prefer to have planets go back to being level 1-100 and each sector having their own level range like A was around 1-10. This made the game much more fun to me. Also, i don't want to be able to find tier 2+ weapons that easily that i can get 20+ of them in less than 5 minutes of gameplay. it was far more fun having to reach level 10 planets with sweat and blood then obtaining your first few tier 2 weapons on an uncommon basis. Personally, i think a lot of work needs to be done on this update to perfect this new balance system, and i would much like to see them return the old planet leveling system. (Not the armor penetration). As it stands, i personally, along with some of my friends, prefer the old patch to this one. (Irritated Koala>Annoyed Koala).

It should be noted that the point of this patch was not to balance the game, the point of this patch was to completely overhaul the combat system because... well, the devs wanted to, I guess. If the devs wanted to balance the game, they would've tweaked the high armor pen versus low armor multipliers in the old system instead of overhauling everything.

No, the point of this patch was to balance the game. They said so in their own words, if you take a look at the update posts.

It was to set the framework for balancing, though honestly it was unnecessary because as I said, the AP system only needed very minor tweaks. Do you think the game was balanced at all in this patch? In my opinion, the game is even more extreme now.

No, as i said, i feel this game is less balanced than ever, i much preferred last patch, although i do like the concept of no armor penetration system, just static damage.

The funny thing is that combat mechanics are almost identical between this patch and the last... the only difference is that there's no more armor penetration stat. Even-level fights still take the same amount of time as they did in the last patch.

They DID call it the "big balance update", but I do agree with you. I think their intention was to A.) make the game's progression less vertical and B.) Make it easier to compare equipment stats. As a side note, now that armor actually effects health values, it makes me wonder how the defense stat relates to damage. If it is a percentage reduction, then the defense stat is already multiplying your effective health, and actual health increases are actually going to make that more confusing in terms of how much raw DPS you can receive before dying. If it is a flat damage reduction, that could make the game even harder for the developers to balance for various reasons that I've brought up in old threads long before the beta release.

I personally have no idea if armor is providing a flat or percentage damage reduction, but I do know that it is in fact providing damage reduction because energy attacks are bugged right now in such a way that they completely ignore armor. I noticed when a mob would run into me for 20 damage and then another mob would spit fire at me for 90 damage.

Flat reduction should be theoretically easy to test; all we have to do is jump down to a lower level tier, get hit, and see if we take zero damage, unless there are diminishing returns.

Maybe, but even-level is not something easy to come by in this patch. Everything seems to be a bit OP. Like i said, i found tier 2 weaps in 5 min of gameplay. That's not very fun in my opinion.

You're a luckier (unluckier?) man than I. Everything I found in the Alpha sector was Tier 1.

Really? Maybe i should make a new character, because i literally filled my ship's locker with tier 2 weapons before i even made a pick or campfire. I went around to other planets, and had pretty similar results. Maybe i am just lucky (unlucky) this patch. The one time i get something i would normally want, it becomes a curse.

When i spawned on my homeplanet, two birds were attacking me. I tried to escape and ran like hell. SRSLY wtf they didn't stop to engage/follow me. Every Bird doesn't stop following me.
They need only two-three hits to kill me :D.

Maybe they are planning on having energy defense as a separate armor attribute, which would be a bonus. So you could choose between a higher regular defense, or giving some of that up and getting better fire/electric defense. That would actually be really awesome if they managed to balance it better.

I don't have time to test this ATM, but can you confirm whether healing items heal by percentage or by number? Because bonus health would be bad if healing items recovered by flat numbers, since you'd need more health to recover to max. IMO, flat healing only works with flat damage reduction and bonus health, and bonus health doesn't make much sense if you are using geometric damage reduction and percentage healing.

I must admit though, being able to see daamge done to their health is a nicer touch, and the changed weapon stats lets me compare things easier. Still, I do wish I could improve or recombine a given weapon to get a look I prefer. Maybe do what AION does, and let you texture swap between items of the same class.

I can confirm the healing items are still healing by a percentage. At an "empty" bar when max health is 150, it still takes 3 bandages to get to full HP (same as it did with 100 HP).

Then it would go under "I love it, it's perfect!", obviously....

That means extra HP isn't straight-up worse than extra armor, but it still makes it harder to understand your defense in terms of hits you can take. If the defense stat uses a geometric formula to alter damage, then it is multiplying your effective HP, and if the base HP also changes then it is harder to know your "real" defense without already knowing the actual formula.

I'm glad to hear it, but I still think Player HP should be locked in at 100.
You don't even see your HP values outside of the menu anyway.

Actually, got an update for you. Now at 185 HP and three Bandages doesn't cut it. Maybe it is a fixed value?
